13th Spring of Museums brings together free activities in Manaus

This year, the event has the theme "Museums inside, inside museums," and features activities held throughout the country.

Guided tours to the Museum of the City of Manaus, round table and the launch of the book "Mercado Adolpho Lisboa - History and Architecture" are part of the program of the 13th Spring of Museumsa national event promoted by the Brazilian Institute of Museums (Ibram). In Manaus, the activities are held by the City Hall and will take place between 23 to September 29, in the City Museum and the Amazon Institutealways with free admission.

Held annually, the Spring of Museums aims to promote, publicize and value the Brazilian museums, besides increasing the visiting public and intensifying the relationship of museums with the society. This year, the event's theme is "Museums inside, inside the museums", and counts on activities all over the country.

Visits to the Museum

In Manaus, the visits to the City Museum are part of the event's schedule and will take place during normal hours, from September 24th to 29th, from 9am to 5pm, always with the last entrance at 4:20pm.

Located in the Paço da Liberdade building, on Gabriel Salgado Street, Manaus Historical Center, in front of Dom Pedro II Squarethe museum offers eight rooms for visits, featuring the permanent exhibition "The City of Manaus: History, People, and Culture", which tells the story of the city and the identity of the Manaus people through technological interactions, archeological pieces, and regional articles.

Round table

On Wednesday, 25 / 9, there will be a round table with the theme "The process of implementation of the Museum of the City of Manaus", from 15h to 17h, at the Instituto Amazônia, located at Bernardo Ramos Street, Center, near the City Museum.

The activity, which requires registration, will be taught by the Director of Culture of Manauscult, Márcio Braz, and architects and professors Ana Lúcia Abrahim and Alcilânia Lima.

During the event, the professionals will address the process of implementation of the City Museum, from the law that created it, through the public notice, museographic project, reforms and other events, as well as the difficulties encountered during the process, the legacy and future prospects for permanence of the cultural equipment.

Book launch

Soon afterwards, still on the 25th, at 5pm, the book "Mercado Adolpho Lisboa - História e Arquitetura" will be launched, also at the Instituto Amazônia.

Written by the journalist, historian, and professor Otoni Mesquita, the work makes a historical survey about the Mercado Municipal Adolpho Lisboa, highlighting its relationship with regional supply and the changes processed in the local society.

The author also highlights the construction, expansions and other updates of the group of buildings in its immediate surroundings. Based on official documents and travelers' accounts, Otoni reconstitutes a panorama of Manaus, highlighting the Market space as one of the most significant elements of identity and memory.
