Amazonas Philharmonic presents works by Dmitri Shostakovich and Claudio Santoro

Concert is part of the program of the 16th edition of the Guaraná Series.

With works by Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich and the Amazonian Claudio Santoro, a Amazonas Philharmonic will perform, this Thursday (09/19), the second concert of the 16th edition of the Guaraná Series. The event will be at the Amazonas TheaterThe admission is free and the donation of a toy is required for the campaign "Donate a toy and win smiles".

In "Shostakovich Santoro", the Amazonas Philharmonic will be conducted by Marcelo de Jesus and will perform two works by the Russian composer, "Ballet Suite No. 1" and "Violin Concerto No. 2 in C sharp minor, op. 129", and one of Santoro, "Piano Concerto No. 1".

Conductor of the performance, Marcelo de Jesus points out that the concert is also part of the celebrations for Claudio Santoro's centennial year.

"Shostakovich is an important composer from the modern period of Russian music, and Santoro was greatly influenced by his music. So we decided to bring together the works of both composers in this concert, which is unprecedented in the Amazon. It is also part of the celebrations for Santoro's 100th birthday, which the Amazonas Philharmonic has been doing all year long, including in most of its presentations a piece by the Amazon composer," he says.

The concert will feature two guest musicians: the Italian violinist Alessandro Borgomanero and the Brazilian pianist Aleyson Scopel, who has performed in the United States and Europe. Alessandro will participate in the first part of the program, dedicated to Shostakovich, and Aleyson will enter the second part of the concert, during Santoro's work.

"They are two musicians with significant careers in Brazil and abroad. It will be Alessandro's first time in Manaus. Aleyson has already performed with the Amazonas Filarmônica and did, in the first half of 2019, this same concert with the Filarmônica de Minas Gerais," comments Marcelo de Jesus. "These participations contribute a lot to the series."
