"Amazonia: Art & Facts" is the newest exhibition by renowned Amazonian artist Rui Machadowhich is on display at Gallery of ICBEU ManausThe exhibit has been open since October 26 and will be open until November 26, from Monday to Friday, from 3 pm to 10 pm. The vernissage took place on October 25th, at 7pm, with the participation of the Amazonas Band, conducted by Maestro Rui Carvalho. There was also a brilliant fashion show of the Bem Ditas label, by Sônia Jinkings, with prints by Rui Machado.
It is worth mentioning that this is the second individual exhibition of the artist in the Art Gallery of the ICBEU- Manaus. The first one took place in 2011 and was supported by the Embassy of the United States of North America in Brazil.
The artist considers these to be the two biggest exhibitions of his trajectory, both for the amount of works and for the importance that the ICBEU - Manaus has in his life and in his history. Both were born in 1956 and its founder was also named Ruy Machado (Alencar), was an important friend and highly esteemed by the artist. In 2016, Rui Machado and ICBEU - Manaus completed 60 years. Rui was honored by the ICBEU with the Cultural and Educational Medal, which is the highest honor the institution bestows on city personalities.
The works portray customs, objects, behavioral traits, and landscapes from the reality and imaginary of the Amazonian caboclo, all in acrylic on canvas. One of the works measures 80×80 cm and the others 50×50 cm. The curatorship was done by the artist himself.
About the inspiration for this show, Rui Machado says that "All the paintings were created especially for this occasion. Regarding the name of the exhibition, 'Amazônia: Art & Facts', I wanted to say that this series of works has art from the Amazon and facts that happen here. Some paintings depict Amazonian landscapes, some as a denunciation, others with a sense of hope for a preserved Amazon and a better world. I show the fauna, flora, indigenous art, and forest peoples. All this is Amazonian art".
The exhibition catalog is a bilingual edition, designed by Reggo, with images by photographer Roumen Koynov. In addition to the artworks, the catalog is accompanied by a CD with 19 of Rui's songs, written in partnership with other artists.
