French artist tells stories while creating drawings in the sand, on the stage of Amazonas Theater

Cleopatra, the Tale of Aram, and The Emperor and the Nightingale are some of the stories told by Lorène, who has performed more than 700 times throughout France.

On a glowing table, the artist Lorène Bihorel uses drawings in the sand to tell the most incredible stories, which are reproduced on a large screen to the fascination of the audience. This is the show "Dreams in the Sandby Sable d'Avril companywhich will be presented at Amazonas Theater this Friday (23/8), at 20h. The event is held by the French Embassy and the French Institute of Brazil, with support from the State Secretariat of Culture (SEC), and has free admission.

Cleopatra, the Tale of Aram, and The Emperor and the Nightingale are some of the stories told by Lorène, who has performed more than 700 times throughout France. The artist, who comes from a family of painters, learned the technique of drawing in the sand when she was a teenager and decided to undertake the project years later.

"Drawing in sand opened a new field of expression. The sand is alive and in motion. Every gesture counts, it is a precision of every moment," declares the artist.

The show is designed for the whole family. For one hour, Lorène Bihorel manipulates sand on a light table. The action is captured by a camera and relayed on a big screen.

"The creation of this show took more than a year. It took me earlier to master all the technique, so I designed each story as an invitation to discover a universe, bringing the viewer from surprise to surprise."

This is the second consecutive year that the French embassy has held an event at the Teatro Amazonas for Francophone and Manauara audiences. In 2018, the show was "Little Red Riding Hood" by Frenchman Joël Pommerat, presented in October.

"As we have a bilingual institution in Manaus, it is in the interest of the Embassy to propose events for this public and that also benefit the Manauara population," explains the cultural advisor of the French Embassy in Brazil, Soraya Barne.
