Local artists promote exhibition that reimagines Amazonian myths and legends

17 artists among, sculptors, illustrators painters and musicians, create their versions of legends and myths known from Amazonian folklore, seeking to rescue the lost relationship of the people with their culture and aiming to exalt the beauty and mysteries of the region.

"Tales of a Fantastic Amazon arises from the proposal of a project created by Luiz Andrade, one of the winners of the Cultural Connections Award 2017, promoted by the Municipal Foundation of Culture, Tourism and Events (Manauscult). The project brings together several artists who have delved into the mysteries and local narratives to present known legends, unique and fantastic beings, and beautiful symbiotic relationships that walk between the real and the imaginary.

The opening takes place in Manaus on April 17th, starting at 7pm, at the Palacete Provincial Cultural Center (Praça Heliodoro Balbi, S/N - Centro) and will include a cocktail for the guests and a special presentation.

The curatorship is signed by Hadna Abreu and also has the participation of Daniela Soares, Davi Martins, Diego Alessandro, Erick Rodrigues, Francisco Ricardo, Gedeon Nunes, Geovana Balbi, Leandro Moraes, Luiz Andrade, Rafael Rodrigues, Rai Campos, Rayanne Cardoso, Rainer Canto, Samantha Karlia, Taiara Guedes and Uýra Sodoma.

A Fantastic Amazon

Amazonian myths and legends, narratives that echo from the bosom of the forest and cross the winding rivers of generations, revealing the energy contained in the forest until the present day.

The exhibition CONTOS DE UMA AMAZÔNIA FANTÁSTICA is the result of an unusual expedition to the fabulous enigmatic universe of the region, carried out by 17 young artists living in the city of Manaus. Inspired by the famous travelers and their richly illustrated taxonomic notes, they collected stories, research and experiences that border between the real and the imaginary.

Through ways of observing nature, popular stories and ancestral beliefs, each work carries with it the appreciation of mythical culture and instigating cultural interlaces, which show infinite possibilities for a creative field still little explored by the arts, compared to the immensity of the Amazonian biodiversity.

The set of works highlights the intensity and vigor of the rich fauna, through the natural beauty and its mysteries, bringing reflections about the protection and preservation of the forest territories, as well as its memory. Among paintings, sculptures, performance and sound works, the cultural lineage belonging to each artist is also revealed, proposing new clothes, according to each one's perception, highlighting the importance of the search for their identities and for the maintenance of the contemporaneity of their stories, creating a current reflection for society of what it is to be part of this extraordinary Amazon.
