The State Secretariat of Culture (SEC), through the Amazonas Braille LibraryThe State Secretariat of Culture (SEC), through the Braille Library of Amazonas, has opened enrollment for musical instrument courses for the visually impaired and people with low vision. The traditional Keyboard and Guitar classes are available. For the first time, Cavaquinho lessons will be offered. Registration is free and can be done by e-mail or by phone (92) 99111-8734 / 99969-6489.
The classes take place in the Library, located in Block C of the Convention Center - Sambódromo (Av. Pedro Teixeira, 2.565, Dom Pedro). On Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8am to 12pm, the Keyboard course will be held, with professor Guilherme Munhoz; on Wednesdays, from 8am to 12pm, the Guitar course will be held; and on Fridays, at the same time, the Cavaquinho course, both taught by professor Carlos da Costa.
Music courses
The project for courses in instruments for the handicapped has been held since 2006, in partnership with the Núcleo de Música Popular do Liceu de Artes e Ofícios Claudio Santoro, which makes the teachers available. The purpose, according to the Library manager, Gilson Mauro Pereira, is to improve the quality of life of people with visual impairment and attract new users to the Library.
Implanted in 1999, the Amazonas Braille Library has a collection of 50,466 volumes, distributed in Braille works, spoken books (in MP3), digitalized books and films with audiodescription.
