In Amazonas, bototherapy was started in 2005 by physiotherapist Igor Simões Andrade.
On March 21 and 22, the BBC TV will record a program dedicated to the sessions of bototherapy bototherapy sessionssessions, a method of interaction or assisted therapy with the free dolphins of the Amazon and the yoga activity, held at the Moacyr Alves Shelter in partnership with volunteer and physiotherapist Igor Simões de Andrade.
On March 21st, at 10am, the yoga classes that are held every Thursday morning at the headquarters of the institution will be recorded, involving employees, volunteers and children from Abrigo.
On March 22nd, the TV crew will embark with the children and the physiotherapist Igor to the Praia Amigos do Boto, near Vila de São Tomé, where the bototherapy sessions will be recorded.
Physiotherapist Igor Simões de Andrade says that the therapy was developed by him. The technique is associated with contact and peaceful interaction with Amazonian "dolphins". The children also receive teachings on environmental education, such as the characteristics and daily life of the dolphins.
"The therapy can, for example, help a child to allow more contact with people, have more movement and balance, improve breathing, among many other benefits," said Igor. The rolfing technique is also used by the physical therapist and consists of a manual therapy that uses clinical massage therapy to improve patients' posture.
Started in 2010 in the former Hotel Ariaú, the project was reactivated in 2018 with the support of the physical therapist, who also ministers every Thursday, on a voluntary basis, yoga to the employees and children of Abrigo Moacyr Alves.
