O 63rd Amazonas Folkloric Festival - Gold Category - starts this Saturday (08/24), at 7pm, at the Professor Gilberto Mestrinho Convention Center - Sambódromo of Manaus. The first day will feature presentations of regional garrote modalities, ciranda and Boi-Bumbá.
The event, sponsored by the Government of Amazonas, through the State Secretariat of Culture (SEC), runs until the day 31 August and has free admission.
The first presentation is by the group "Estrelinha" (regional garrote), followed by "Sensação da Raiz" (ciranda) and "Maravilha" (ciranda), besides the Boi-Bumbá Master A groups - "Galante de Manaus", "Corre Campo" and "Garanhão". Besides the performances, the Festival will have typical food stands located in blocks H and D of the Sambadrome. Next to these blocks, in the external area, a playground for children will also be available.
Among the cirandas, the group "Sensação da Raiz" presents the theme "A sensação das ondas do mar fez balançar o coração de Lia de Itamaracá", a tribute to one of the most famous cirandeiras in Brazil, the dancer, composer and ciranda dancer Maria Madalena Correia do Nascimento, known as Lia de Itamaracá.
The "Maravilha" ciranda group, on the other hand, has the theme "Honorato, o Encantado" (Honorato, the Enchanted One), about one of the traditional characters of the ciranda, the healer and pray-er Seu Honorato, who, through his faith and knowledge of medicinal herbs and miraculous prayers, plays the role of a doctor. With this theme, the group also values the Amazonian healers.
Champion of the Master B category in 2018, the Boi-Bumbá Galante de Manaus defends this year the theme "Aiwri Cawa - O Espírito do Gavião", about the history of the Ajuricaba Indian, who led the Manaós indigenous nation and fought against the Portuguese invasion.
"We came with this theme to honor the Manauara people and the 350 years of the city of Manaus. Ajuricaba represents a battling people, a warrior, who despite adversities, resists, and is still the great guardian of the forests. We will still have the legend of the pirarucu and the ritual about the village boy who becomes a shaman. It will be very cool and we hope to conquer the audience," highlights the president of Galante, Gilson Nascimento.
Champion of the Master A in 2018, the Boi-Bumbá Corre Campo defends the theme "Manaus, Manaó, 350 years", a tribute to the capital of Amazonas. "We came to pay homage to Manaus by saying that, even after these 350 years, the territory in which we live still belongs to the Manaó Indians and we are all heirs of them. In our presentation we will make a trip through the history of Manaus, going through the arrival of the Europeans, the confrontation with the Indians, the death of Ajuricaba, until arriving at the Belle Époque. We will also show how the ox play represents the city of Manaus, "says the director of the arena and the artistic commission of the Boi Garanhão, Leon Medeiros.
Last to perform, the Boi Garanhão, current vice-champion of the Master A modality, brings the theme "Garanhão, a bull of roots and traditions". According to the arena director Wallace Almeida, the Boi-Bumbá do Educandos will tell the process of creation of the local folklore, allied to the neighborhood traditions.
"The Educandos neighborhood is a source of Amazonian folklore, from where the Boi Garanhão and several other dances and manifestations emerged, so we will tell how this happened. In addition, we will have the legend of the boto, the tucandeira ritual, and a tribute to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, patron saint of Educandos. We have been rehearsing hard since March so that we can be successful in this Festival", he declares.
On Sunday, the Amazonas Folkloric Festival continues with groups from the modalities of traditional garrote, tribe, regional bumbá, cacetinho, traditional quadrilha, traditional bumbá, and regional dance.
