This Friday (03/15) and Saturday (03/16), from 9am to 4pm, the Cultural Center of the Peoples of the Amazon (CCPA) will promote the event "Amazon of the Flying Riverswith vast activities in allusion to the National Day for Awareness of Climate Change. The project is a realization of the State Secretariat of Culture (SEC), with free classification and free admission.
With this event, the CCPA team will provide a meeting of students and the general population for two days of artistic-cultural and scientific immersion activities, for the reflection on themes related to the environment. "The goal is to make participants aware of their responsibilities in the processes of preservation, care, and sustainability of the planet's natural resources," explains the manager of the SEC's Pedagogical Center, Ricardo Lopes.
The program will include workshops using recyclable materials and a chat about Environmental Education, with biology PhD Elizabeth da Conceição Santos and geographer Guilherme Vilagelim de Souza. There will also be artistic performances, dance classes, and distribution of seedlings.
Recyclable Material for Workshops
"Amazon of the Flying Rivers" will have workshops to produce poufs and ecobags. To this end, the CCPA is already serving as a collection point for PET bottles and banners, the material that will be used to make the pieces. Still, the organization of the event advises those interested to bring these objects on the day, for participation in the class.
The flying rivers are immense volumes of water vapor, which come from the Atlantic Ocean, mainly responsible for the formation of rain in the Amazon. They are also very important for regulating the climate in the Midwest and Southeast regions, sometimes reaching as far south as Brazil, some states in Bolivia, Paraguay and even the Andes. They are about three kilometers high, a few hundred wide, and thousands of kilometers long. This means that, on some days of the year, a river the size of the Amazon crosses the skies of Brazil.
