Cine Casarão completes two years of activities on Thursday (24)

Cine Casarão is an independent movie theater with popular prices.

On the same day Manaus completes 350 years, the Cine Casarãoat Rua Barroso, 279, Centro, celebrates two years of activities. And, even with only 30 seats with original chairs from old movie theaters that were acquired by its management - plus proper lighting, sound system, and screen -, the place has a lot to celebrate.

More than 8,100 spectators have passed through the theater, and more than 100 titles have been shown, distributed among the programming that takes place on Wednesdays at 3pm and 5:30pm, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 2:30pm, 4:30pm, 6pm, and 8:30pm, and on Sundays at 5pm and 7pm.

The Cine Casarão is an independent movie theater with popular prices. The prices are maintained at R$5 for half admission, valid for students and people with this right, and full admission costs R$10.

"In the beginning we thought of having a center where the priority would be national productions, since most of the time they are neglected by the big cinema chains," says the director of the theater, João Fernandes Neto. "But over time we have opened up new possibilities and started showing films considered to be fine art.

João Fernandes adds that the Cine Casarão has managed to fulfill its role in being a space for a new source of cultural engagement and sharing. "Great films that were no longer shown in the movie theaters were shown in our space. This made it possible for great documentaries to be shown for weeks," says the director.

Focusing on art and national cinema, the programming of the Cine Casarão began with the partnership made with Vitrine Filmes, which allowed the premieres of Brazilian productions simultaneously to other states outside the Rio-São Paulo axis. Currently, Cine Casarão has other distributor partners such as Pandora, Imovision, California, Bretzs Filmes, Embaúba, Olhar, Art House, Elo Company, Boulevard Filmes and Art Plex.

Several titles managed to stay on exhibition for several weeks, like the film "Bacurau", which is still running, with a full capacity in all sessions. "Ex-Pajé" was also sold out, and many interested people who couldn't get in stayed to participate in the conversation with filmmaker Luiz Bolognesi that followed the film. And also "The Process", which tells the trajectory of the impeachment of former president Dilma Roussef, was among the most watched films at Cine Casarão.

At Cine Casarão, the public can wait for the session while drinking a special coffee at the Cine Café, which was created over a year ago. In this space it is also possible to read books about theater, dance, music, and other subjects, which are only available for local activity.
