The project Cine Teatro Amazonaswhich aims to disseminate the Amazon film production, shows nine works by filmmaker Roberto Kahaneon Wednesday (18/9), at 20h. The event has free admission.
In all, the films "Like me, like you"; "A painter from Amazonas"; "Plastics and movement"; "Silvino Santos, the end of a pioneer", "Fragments of the enchanted land", "1922 - The exhibition of independence", "Who's worth it"; "About soccer"; and "Interview with Roberto, by Norma Araújo" will be shown.
Among the themes represented in the works are the transformations of Manaus in the 1960s, the story of the Amazonian painter Hahnemann Bacelar, the 3rd Plastic Arts Fair, and about the legendary filmmaker Silvino Santos, who figures in three works of the show.
"The exhibition gathers my first cinematographic experiences in the 1960's and also the works I did about Silvino. 'O fim de um pioneiro' was the documentary that revealed the figure of Silvino to Brazil and, at the time (1970), it was shown as a complement to the film 'Tubarão'. The work shows his background. Fragmentos de Terra Encantada" and "Exposição da Independência" were images that I recovered from Silvino's documentaries. They are beautiful scenes from his work," says Kahane.
Check out the synopses of the works:
"Like me, like you" (1965): Documents how the destruction of Cidade Flutuante, a kind of river appendix of Manaus, happened in 1965. The initiative, viewed by the local elites as necessary from the logistical point of view, for a city that would in the future host the Free Trade Zone, was seen by poet Aldisio Filgueiras and his friend from the Lumière Film Club, Roberto Kahane, as an affront to the way of life of the needy population. It was to this population that both dedicated the film. (Direction: Roberto Kahane, Felipe Lindoso).
"An Amazonian Painter" (1965): The film was shot in 8mm and sounded precariously with the amateur resources available at the time. It tells the story of Hahnemann Bacelar, a painter from Amazonas, who was born in Manaus and died in Pará in 1970. (Duration: 14 min; Directors: Roberto Kahane, Felipe Lindoso).
"Plastic and Movement" (1966): The work documents the 3rd Plastic Arts Fair, which took place on August 21, 1966, at Ponta Negra beach. During the Amazonian summer, the fair exhibited about one hundred works by local artists, including engravings, paintings, drawings and sculptures (Direction: Roberto Kahane, Raimundo Feitosa, Aldisio Filgueiras, Felipe Lindoso).
"Silvino Santos, the end of a pioneer" (1970): Documents the life and work of Brazilian and Amazonian film pioneer Silvino Santos in his hospital bed and his burial in Manaus in 1970. (Duration: 15 min; Direction: Roberto Kahane and Domingos Demasi).
"Fragments of the Enchanted Land" (1970): A version made with what remains of the documentary "Terra Encantada" (Enchanted Land) by Silvino Santos (1886-1970), keeping the original text of the recovered sequences. It is a film that intends to be a document of a noisy time, filmed by a man who lived and interpreted it with dazzle and sensitivity. Its far-fetched images show the concern with the "beauty" and the "sophistication" of Rio in 1923, living with this city the myth of the "Enchanted Land". (Duration: 10 min; Direction: Roberto Kahane and Domingos Demasi).
"1922 - The Independence Exhibition" (1970): Between 1922 and 1923, the "International Independence Exhibition" was held in Rio de Janeiro to commemorate its centennial. Filmmaker Silvino Santos (1893-1970), who presented his film "No País das Amazonas" (In the Country of the Amazons) at the same exhibition, documented the activities of the Exposition. This film is the reconstitution of his work, in which the images were recovered, obeying an informative criterion of archives of the time, and the soundtrack, a musical ambience of the 20's. (Duration: 15 min; Direction: Roberto Kahane and Domingos Demasi).
"Vale quem tem" (1970): This is a chronicle about the men who erected, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a cosmopolitan city in the middle of the Amazon jungle, Manaus, maintaining a breakneck pace of life while the rubber monopoly lasted. (Duration: 9 min; Direction: Roberto Kahane).
"Apropos of Soccer" (1970): Reflective montage about soccer as a mass sport, in the words of Oswald de Andrade. (Duration: 8 min.; Direction: Roberto Kahane).
