Guarany Theater exhibits short films by the filmmaker Davi Marinho

It's this Saturday (18/05), at 18h, with free admission and indicative rating for 12 years. In all, 16 short films will be screened.

Short films by the filmmaker Davi Marinhowhich address various aspects, such as politics, comedy and terror, will be screened at Cine Teatro Guarany (Av. Sete de Setembro, 1446, Centro), this Saturday (May 18), at 6 pm, with free admission and rated for 12 years.

The exhibition is part of "Showcase of Amazonian Filmmakersthat integrates the programming of Cine Arts Club and aims to publicize and give more visibility to the cinematography produced by local artists. In all, 16 short films will be shown which, according to Davi, are works produced by him, as an assistant and director, since 2002, the year in which he composed the team for the first short film.

Among the 16 films, three are unpublished works: the stop motion animation "Unconditional" (1min20sec, 2016), and the films "Do you smoke?" (1min20sec, 2016) and "Strangers" (8min, 2019).

"Reviewing and remembering the initial works and presenting the new works, along with the team that worked with me, will be a way to realize the evolution of the productions. I want to present the culture we make around here to them and I hope they leave satisfied," comments Marinho.

The filmmaker explains that the works produced since 2002 approach several themes, but currently Davi Marinho has dedicated himself to horror films.

"I usually work with variations. I started working on the political issue, I talked about the devaluation of education, I made comedies. It's very versatile. I go on working with various nuances", he highlights.

The filmmaker

Davi Marinho is from Manaus, 37 years old. He studied theater since childhood in free courses. In 2002, he entered the Claudio Santoro High School of Arts and Crafts, where he became interested in cinema. In the same year, she attended the script and short film production workshop with filmmaker Junior Rodrigues, at Livraria Valer, where she started to write and produce. She has two degrees (Librarianship and Advertising) and a Specialization in Communication and Semiotics. She is currently completing the online Cinema and Audiovisual course at Cotemar Institute (Bahia).

Davi Marinho selected for the exhibition the following short films in which he acted as assistant and director:

"THE DUEL" (1.2min, 2002) - Davi Marinho's first work as assistant director and awarded at the first one-minute short film festival of Amazonas, the short portrays the story of an old lady, who reacts to an armed robbery in a surprising way.

"ACCASON, DESTINY OR SOMETHING MORE?" (4min, 2010) - This fiction puts in evidence the issue of racism.

"SINTA" (3.15min, 2010) - A couple say goodbye to another day at work, but the wife has a bad feeling.

"190 - EMERGENCY" (1.2min, 2011) - The short film deals with harmful phone calls, known as prank calls, which end up hindering the police service.

"THE GIFT OF LUÍZA" (1.2 min, 2011) - A young man tries in various ways to win his beloved, but the way he succeeds is not at all conventional.

"SCHOOL WORK" (1.2min, 2011) - This short film deals with the relationship between father and son.

"WHAT COUNTRY IS THIS?" (1.2min, 2014) - The short questions the valuation of the teacher and people who act in bad faith to get along in life.

"AMIZADE" (1.2min, 2015) - In his first experience with animation, Davi Marinho pays tribute to Roberto Bolaños (in memorian), Mexican actor, famous for the character Chaves.

"AMOR MALANDRO" (1.2min, 2015) - This comedy portrays the troubled relationship of a couple who love each other but always fight.

"INCONDICIONAL" (1.2min, 2016) - In his second animation with photographs, Davi Marinho addresses the theme of "inclusion and representativeness".

"YOU SMOKING?" (1.2min, 2016) - Unpublished work. In the form of awareness in the fight against smoking, the short presents a dialogue between a street child and a successful man.

"LOVE YOURSELF" (17min, 2016) - Conceived as an awareness campaign about organ donation and directed by Jairo Freitas, who at the time was waiting for a liver transplant, the short film tells the story of a fatal accident with a young girl, giving Jairo hope for a possible donation. But the big challenge is to make the young woman's family accept to donate the organ.

"THE TABLE" (18min, 2017) - Winner of a cultural script contest, the film tells the story of a young woman who returns to her hometown and, at every corner, recalls the past.

"THE Clown" (20min, 2017) - A man has a fixation with clowns to the point of damaging his own marriage.

"RUTH - LET'S TALK ABOUT FEAR?" (17 min, 2018) - In this short film, the character Ruth is afraid of being alone and of the dark. What happens when these two situations meet on any given day?

"STRANGERS" (8min, 2019) - A relationship between two young people seems to not be going well. They hardly speak to each other and the reason could be related to the girl's mother.
