Cine Video Tarumã resumes programming with films dedicated to the Father's Day

In Brazil, Father's Day is celebrated annually on the second Sunday of August. In honor of this date, Cine Vídeo Tarumã is showing three films focused on the theme between fathers and sons. This is the first week of screenings after the recess held according to the calendar of the Federal University of Amazonas. The sessions are free and always take place at 12:30 pm, at the Rio Negro Auditorium of the Philosophy, Humanities and Social Sciences Institute (IFCHS), located in the North sector of the University Campus.

Monday, the 7th, the film shown is "Captain Fantastic"starring Viggo Mortensen, who received an Oscar nomination for his work. Director Matt Ross' film tells the story of Ben (Mortensen), a father of six children with whom he lives far from civilization in the middle of the forest. The children fight, climb, read classics, debate, hunt, and do hard exercise, with self-sufficiency always the watchword. One day a sad event leads the family to leave the isolation and the reunion with distant relatives brings old conflicts between different realities to the surface.

On Tuesday, it is the turn of "The Eccentric Tenenbaums. The film is directed by Wes Anderson, director of The Grand Budapest Hotel (14) and Fantastic Mr. Fox (09). The feature revolves around Royal Tenenbaum (Gene Hackman) and his wife Etheline Tenenbaum (Anjelica Huston), who have three very different but equally successful children. After the couple separates, Etheline decides to marry another man, and Royal decides to rekindle the old ties and fight for his ex-wife's love by reuniting the whole family.

On Friday, the last screening is "My Father and My Sona Turkish film by director Çagan Irmak. The film tells the story of student Sadik, who becomes a left-wing journalist during the dictatorship in Turkey. Upon learning of his political activities, Hüseyin deserts his son. Years later, Sadik returns with his young son in hopes of reestablishing relations with his father.

The Project Cine Video Tarumã is an extension activity of the Journalism course from the Information and Communication College (FIC), at UFAM, with cultural support from the movie rental company Take Video Locadora.
