Reflection
"Lugar da Chuva" is the result of an exchange between people from Amapa, São Paulo and Maranhão, who took an artistic residency trip to Macapá to collaborate in the creation of the show. The proposal of the work is to poetically reinvent the Amapaense Amazon from the broth of natives, inhabitants and travelers, seeking a place of exchange where reflection can be built.
On stage, reflections about a current, urban, globalized Amazon are interwoven with the issues that move this moment. Parallel to this, there is the mirroring and strangeness with Nature, ancestry and traditions, trying to go beyond the stereotypes about the forest as an uninhabited place without history.
Synopsis
Right at the beginning of the play, actors Raphael Brito and Wellington Dias give up the so-called "fourth wall" - the separation between stage and audience - to welcome the audience and invite them to enter an imaginary boat, where the journey begins. From there, in a kind of narrative game, where there are no fixed characters, they will lead the spectator's imagination through various real and fictional places in Amapá.
Among the real places that the script of the play navigates are Fortaleza de São José, colonial landmark of the city, Ilha de Santana, with its forest of samaúmas, and the district of Araxá, with its urban stilt houses, environments that became some of the scenarios through which the dramaturgy of the play navigates.
The text written by Ave Terrena, based on her experience in the city, is defined by the author as a "cartographic dramaturgy", where each scene is an independent island, but which is in composition with the whole, betting on a bold mixture of narrative and poetic flow in the lines.
Images
The play also has video projections, created by Luciana Ramin, showing images that were recorded in Macapá during the creation process. The material was edited by the artist taking as inspiration the aesthetics of video art, in which she seeks to "reimagine" the landscapes of Amapá through visual poetics.
The general conception of the project is from the director and producer Otávio Oscar, who started the proposal by taking on the challenge of rethinking, through theater, the place of Amazonian identity and culture, which are now no longer defined only by traditions and ancestry, but also by this new globalized facet that is the urban Amazon.
"Despite investing in a poetic language, the show seeks to sensitize the audience to a movement of political reflection, critically addressing some issues that are urgent and current for Amazonian society, such as social, ecological, and urban problems that are on the agenda at the moment," says Oscar.
