With new courses, Claudio Santoro High School opens 1,776 vacancies for the 2nd semester

On the occasion were also presented the new artistic groups of LAOCS: the Youth Orchestra Claudio Santoro and the Youth Ballet Company. There are openings for seven training courses.

The Claudio Santoro High School of Arts and Crafts (LAOCS), administered by the State Secretariat of Culture (SEC), opened on Wednesday (12/06), 1,776 vacancies for the second semester. At the event, which took place at the Professor Gilberto Mestrinho Convention Center (Sambódromo), two new courses were launched: Children's Musicalization in Amazonian Percussion and Musical Theater; in addition to new classes of Violin, Guitar, Keyboard, Guitar for the Elderly and Artistic Training in Dance.

The new LAOCS artistic groups were also introduced: the Claudio Santoro Youth Orchestra and the Youth Ballet Company.

New for the second semester are the courses for Children's Musicalization in Amazonian Percussion and Musical Theater. Aimed at children aged 5 to 7, the course Children's Musicalization in Amazonian Percussion will use acoustic bioinstruments created and/or recreated by Grupo Gaponga to provide students with the development of the basics of Amazonian rhythms (carimbó, toada, and indigenous) and other Brazilian rhythms, to the rhythmic sound of organic music.

According to conductor Davi Nunes, artistic technical director of LAOCS, the course aims to highlight the cultural values of the Amazon. "We want our students to value our culture more and more, in various aspects, such as our rhythms and the raw materials used in the manufacture of the instruments," he said. "We will go beyond the traditional and explore more the students' involvement with our region.

The raw material used to make the instruments are organisms found in the forest, such as gourds, seeds, hedgehogs, among others, and cardboard tubes discarded in the city's shops. According to the Gaponga Group, the little wood used is almost always donated by the National Institute for Amazon Research (Inpa), certified and collected from the forest when it falls spontaneously.

The Musical Theater course, also new to the high school, will be aimed at actors/actresses, dancers, and singers between the ages of 7 and 17, and will provide a space that will allow the students to deepen their artistic perspectives and increase their references within specific approaches, with the goal of forming artists who are able to deal with the theories, concepts, and methods of the arts themselves, expanding their artistic experience and making their scenic production more dynamic.

"The Musical Theater course comes to serve those students who stand out, who already participate in the artistic life of the city in a different way," said Davi Nunes. "They will have music, dance, and theater classes; in dance, they will have ballet, tap, and urban dance; in music, they will have voice lessons and learn to play an instrument.

The course has as its first student the Amazonian singer Raylla Araújo, finalist of The Voice Kids 2019. "I am very happy with the opportunity that the Government is offering and I am sure that the course will be wonderful. I am also happy to be the first student of this course that is so important for my improvement as an artist," she said.

Registration for the second semester's classes will be done, free of charge, starting July 1st, at the School Office, in Block F of LAOCS, located in the Sambódromo (Av. Pedro Teixeira, 2565, Dom Pedro). More information: (92) 3232-1950 / 3017-8823 / 99174-5278.
