Concert in honor of Manaus will have symphony premiere by Claudio Santoro at Teatro Amazonas

The repertoire brings together the Manaus Municipal Anthem and works by Amazonian conductor Claudio Santoro, with the premiere of a symphony.

The Amazonas Philharmonic, with the participation of baritone Inácio de Nonno, performs the concert "Homage to Manaus 350for the "Guaraná XVI Series", this Thursday (10/24), at the Amazonas Theaterat 8pm. The repertoire includes the Manaus Municipal Anthem and works by Amazon conductor Claudio Santoro, with the premiere of a symphony. The event has free admission.

The program starts with an instrumental version of the Manaus Hymn, by Nicolino Milano, which was recently orchestrated and edited by conductor Otávio Simões. Next, Claudio Santoro's "Preludes" and "Love Songs", which are inspired by Vinicius de Moraes' poems, will be presented.

"We will have two contrasting moments of Santoro in the concert in honor of Manaus. The first one is the songs, in which we will have Inácio's voice. Generally, in this work, female voices are used, although the character in the poems is male. With Inácio's voice we will have another reading of the work," explains conductor Marcelo de Jesus, who will conduct this Thursday's concert.

The concert will conclude with Santoro's "Symphony No. 10," entitled "Amazonas. The work premiered in 1982, conducted by the maestro from Amazonas, but this is the first time it has been presented in the Amazon. Marcelo de Jesus explains that the symphony is part of the last phase of Santoro's career, in which he explores the Amazonian sensory.

"This work contrasts a lot with the preludes and love songs," Marcelo points out. "It is a very dense and mature symphony in his career, different from the others. The piece has a very well worked orchestration and interesting movements, one of them based on a poem by Thiago de Mello, and another more experimental, which recreates sounds from the forest. In comparison with Villa-Lobos, who tries to reproduce sounds by imitating some birds, such as the uirapuru, Santoro explores the sensorial, wanting the listener to feel the Amazon.

The concert is also part of the celebrations of Claudio Santoro's centennial in 2019. Conductor Marcelo de Jesus states that "Sinfonia n. 10" was chosen to honor the city of Manaus.

"In addition to the Manaus Hymn, we also decided to honor the city with works by a maestro from Amazonas, who titled a symphony with the name of the state, and who had so much love for the region. We hope it will be a gift to the Manaus public on October 24".
