Basic Course in Libras is offered by SEC and Cetam

Registrations are free, start this Wednesday (29/05) and continue until June 4. There are 40 vacancies being offered for people from 16 years of age.

The State Secretariat of Culture (SEC)in partnership with the Centro de Educação Tecnológica do Amazonas (Cetam)will promote, in June, the Basic Course Brazilian Sign Language (Libras).. Enrollment is free of charge and starts this Wednesday (05/29) and continues until June 4th. Those interested should send an email to [email protected]indicating the name of the course in the subject, and informing the following data: name, age, and contact phone number.

The course will last 160 hours and will be taught by teacher Ana Lídia, an instructor from Cetam. Forty vacancies are being offered for people aged 16 and up. The classes will start on June 11th, and will take place at Cineteatro Guaranyfrom Tuesday to Friday, from 8am to 12pm.

According to the SEC's advisor for Inclusion of the Person with Disability, Sheila Campos, the activity aims to disseminate and multiply the knowledge of Brazil's second official language and the first language of the deaf community.

For the course coordinator of the Cetam Project in the government, Leonir Abreu, the action in partnership with SEC enables "the acquisition of new knowledge and improvement in people's quality of life through professionalizing courses".
