Writer from Rio Grande do Sul participates in Book Club, at Saraiva Bookstore, Sunday

The work, published in 2018, has reached more than one million reads on Amazon and is one of the best-known titles by the author, who has more than 15 books published on the platform.

The Book Club "Caboquinhas que Lêem receives this Sunday (08), at 4 pm, in the auditorium of Saraiva Bookstore of Shopping Manauara, the writer from Rio Grande do Sul Luísa Aranhato debate about her book, "The Advantages of Being Betrayed. 

The work, published in 2018 by Secret Society Publishing, has already reached more than one million reads on Amazon and is one of the best-known titles by the author, who has more than 15 books published on the platform.

The Perks of Being Betrayed is a contemporary romance that has as its main focus, not betrayal, but overcoming. Magdalena, the protagonist, finds herself completely lost after a betrayal and the end of her marriage. Instead of succumbing to all the pain she feels, she uses it as an impetus to take back the reins of her life. "The book is a lesson for a lot of people, that's why we chose it," explains teacher Ivany Souza, 41, one of the founders of the Club.

Book Club

The Book Club, founded in August last year, originated in a group on social networks, of female readers in the city of Manaus. "Since March 2016 we have had the group, we exchanged reading tips, opinions about books and met when it was possible. We organized many collective readings and games with the participants. Our main goal is to encourage reading and promote literature, especially national literature," says Ivany.

The need for more literary events in the city has always been a constant in the group's conversations. With this in mind, the Book Club with periodic meetings was created. Local authors such as Ana Rita Cunha, Marta Vianna and Tatiana Pinheiro have already participated in the meetings, as well as the Paulistas Sue Hecker and Cassandra Gia, who launched the book A Fénix de Fabergé, which has a chapter in honor of Manaus and the Teatro Amazonas. "When the author of the chosen work cannot be present at the meeting, we promote the reader's contact through lives on instagram @caboquinhasqueleem. We believe it is important to maintain this contact between readers and writers. We understand the difficulty due to the distance of Manaus from other capitals and, therefore, we use the digital resources in our favor. But it's always better when they can come, just like Luisa", clarifies the founder.

About the author

Luísa Aranha, 39, writer and journalist, currently lives in Porto Alegre/RS. She lived in Manaus from 2014 to 2017 and feels happy for the opportunity to return to the Amazon capital to discuss one of her works. "It was a joy to receive the invitation from the Club, obviously I could not miss the opportunity to meet the friends who stayed in Manaus".

About the work to be discussed, Luísa explains that it is based on facts from her own life. "The idea for the book came from my separation, which was very complicated and painful. Everything I read about the subject always showed a woman suffering, being humiliated, and then accepting the man who hurt her back. Why, I wondered. Until I realized that we see in literature the reflection of a macho society, a society I no longer want to be a part of. So, instead of another book about betrayal and forgiveness, I wrote one about betrayal, forgiveness, and overcoming", she declares.

The author, known for other titles that are starred by strong women in everyday dramas, is not satisfied with the romanticization of certain themes in books, and believes that this is her greatest inspiration for the stories she writes and debates them as a great opportunity to take the reader out of the comfort zone. "Bringing a protagonist who is different from what the female readers are used to, who shows that it is possible for a woman to occupy the space she wants, who talks about situations that we suffer on a daily basis and often accept because of the culture in which we were raised, is my main goal. And being able to do this by talking to those who read me is even better", she confesses.

The meeting with the writer will be open to the public. "But it's good to arrive early to get a seat, we usually fill Manauara's auditorium with our group", is proud founder Ivany Souza.
