Show at Amazonas Theater marks the 90 years of Japanese immigration in the Western Amazon

The event, supported by the State Secretariat of Culture (SEC), has free admission.

In celebration of the 90 years of Japanese immigration to Western Amazonia, the Consulate General of Japan in Manaus, in partnership with the Japan Foundation, presents, next Monday (16/9), at 20h, at the Amazonas Theatera performance by the group On Ensemblewith special participation by the singer Sumie Kaneko. The event has free admission.

Formed in 2002, the On Ensemble, which performs for the first time in Manaus, is one of the most respected taiko (Japanese percussion) groups in the world. It is recognized for incorporating the impactful taiko rhythm with musical influences, ranging from jazz and rock, to the harmonic chanting of Central Asia.

Sumie Kaneko will make a special appearance in the show. She also plays traditional Japanese string instruments (koto and shamisen) and performs with various international artistic groups.
