The Amazonas State Tourism Company (Amazonastur) and the Brazilian Airport Infrastructure Company (Infraero) inaugurated, on Wednesday (26/06), at the Eduardo Gomes airport in Manaus, a special exhibition with exclusive pieces of artists who gained prominence at the Parintins Folkloric Festival.
Tourists arriving in Manaus can appreciate six garments worn by the cunhãs-porangas (beautiful woman in the Tupi language) of the bulls Garantido and Caprichoso. The pieces are part of the collection of two great artists from Amazonas: Wernher Botelho and Negreyce Andrade.
The pieces are on display at the airport's arrivals hall and have caught the attention of passengers who have landed in the city of Manaus, many heading to Parintins, which this year is holding the 54th edition of the city's Folkloric Festival. The costumes will be on display until the next day 2.
The artists
Wernher Botelho was an artist and stylist, who passed away in April of this year. The artist began his career creating pieces for Carnaval, in 1982, working for several samba schools in Amazonas and, later, for samba schools from other Brazilian states, such as Leandro de Itaquera, from São Paulo. In Manaus, Wernher stood out by creating costumes for Reino Unido da Liberdade and Unidos do Alvorada. He also produced for the Parintins Folkloric Festival.
Artist Negreyce Andrade was born in Parintins and has been working with costumes and props since 1999.
Her pieces have already been seen in several parties in the interior of the Amazon. Besides producing costumes for the folkloric festivals, she has also left her mark in several Manaus samba schools.
