Amazon Opera Festival presents 'Maria Stuarda' and 'Tosca', at the weekend

O 22nd Amazon Opera Festival (FAO) offers, this weekend, a varied program, which includes the re-presentation of "Maria Stuardaby Gaetano Donizetti, on Friday (10) and Sunday (12), and the premiere of "Toscaby Giacomo Puccini on Saturday (11).

The program will also include a Mother's Day tribute on Sunday (12). O Mother's Day Concert will be held at Installation Theaterat 11am, with the Amazonas Guitar Orchestramusical direction and conductor Davi Nunes.

On Sunday, also at 11am, the Opera Project Mirim will be with the show "L'enfant et les Sortilèges" ("The Boy and the Sortileges"), by Maurice Ravel, which will be presented with puppets, by the artists of the Little Theater of the World. The presentation will take place in the hall of the Teatro Amazonas.

FAO is held by the Government of Amazonas, through the State Secretariat of Culture (SEC), with the master sponsorship of Bradesco, through the Incentive to Culture Law, the Ministry of Citizenship and the Special Secretariat of Culture. The opening was on April 26 and the event continues with opera performances, recitals and concerts until May 30.

Program

This weekend's program opens with the presentation of "Maria Stuarda", by Gaetano Donizetti, on Friday (10), 8:00 pm, at Amazonas Theater. With three hours long, "Maria Stuarda" is presented by Amazonas Philharmonic, Amazonas Choir and Theater Center of the High School of Arts and Crafts Claudio Santoro, with musical direction and conductor Marcelo de Jesus.

The soloists Cristina Giannelli, Tatiana Carlos, Paulo Mandarino, Fred Oliveira, Pepes do Valle, and Dhijana Nobre participate in the show, which had its national premiere at FAO last Sunday (05). The show tells the story of "Maria Stuarda", Queen of Scotland who is forced to take refuge in England and ends up becoming a prisoner of her cousin, Queen Elizabeth.

On Saturday (11) there is the premiere of "Tosca" by Giacomo Puccini. The presentation will be at 8 pm, at Teatro Amazonas. The assembly will be staged by the Amazon Choir, Children's Choir of the Claudio Santoro Arts and Crafts High School and Amazonas Philharmonic, conducted by Luiz Fernando Malheiro.

The cast includes Daniella Carvalho, Fernando Portari, Rodrigo Esteves, Pepes do Valle, Alfonso Mujica, Wilken Silveira, Moisés Rodrigues, and Roberto Paulo. The show lasts 3 hours, with two 20-minute intervals. The opera is about the tragic story of the famous singer Floria Tosca and her lover, the painter Mario Cavaradossi, who lived in Rome in 1800, at the end of the period under Napoleon.

The FAO program on Sunday (12) will also be intense. At 11am there are two events happening simultaneously. At the Teatro da Instalação there is a presentation of the Mother's Day Concert and in the hall of the Teatro Amazonas there is the Opera Mirim project, with "L'enfant et les Sortilèges". At night, at 7 pm, the audience will once again be able to see the presentation of "Maria Stuarda", by Gaetano Donizetti.
