The Amazon Opera Festival enters its last week of performances

The shows will be presented in several areas of the city, some open to the public and with free admission.

For those who want to enjoy the last presentations of the 22nd Amazon Opera Festival (FAO), there is still time. In this final stage of the festival, the public can check out the performances of "Alma" (Soul), "Opera Women"., "Opera Mirim" e "Mater Dolorosa" (Mother of Sorrows). The shows will be presented in several areas of the city, some open to the public and with free admission.

On Tuesday (05/28) there is the second recitation of "Alma", opera by Amazonian composer Claudio Santoro, at 20h, at the Amazonas Theater. The story takes place in São Paulo, in the 1920s. Writer João do Carmo loves young Alma, who does not love him back. The 20-year-old girl falls in love with Mauro, a pimp who beats her up, forcing her to prostitute herself in cabarets. This troubled relationship permeates the opera, composed (music and libretto) by Santoro in 1985. The show features the Amazonas Dance Corps, the Amazonas Choir, and the Amazonas Philharmonic. The musical direction and conducting are the responsibility of maestro Marcelo de Jesus.

On Wednesday (05/29), at 10am, at the Doutor Thomas Foundation, there will be a presentation of "Women of Opera". The presentation has a star-studded cast, made up of sopranos Carol Martins, Elane Monteiro, Mirian Abad, and Raquel de Queiroz; and mezzo-sopranos Kelly Fernandes and Yana Stravaganzzi, who are accompanied by pianist Pedro Panilha. The repertoire is composed of opera passages starring female characters.

Also on Wednesday (05/29), at 4pm, at Ceti Zilda Arns (Jesus Me Deu community) there will be a presentation of "O Menino e os Sortilégios" (The boy and the sorceries), which is part of the "Ópera Mirim" project. Formed by the artists Fábio Retti and Fabiana Vasconcelos, the Little Theater of the World group will present the work "L'enfant et les Sortilèges", by the French composer and pianist Maurice Ravel (1875-1937). With 14 manipulated characters, the play brings the plot around a child who faces the revolt of animals and objects because of his laziness with his homework.

On the same day, at 8pm, the show "Mater Dolorosa" will be performed again at the Teatro Amazonas stage. Proposing a critical reflection on the global crisis of plastic production and pollution, "Mater Dolorosa" is born from a new reading of "Stabat Mater", by the Italian composer Giovanni Pergolesi, which musically portrays Mary's pain when she sees her son Jesus on the cross.

To bring this work to life, two soloists will take the stage: soprano Dhijana Nobre and mezzo-soprano Talita Azevedo, as well as the Experimental Ballet of the Amazonas Dance Corps. The conductor Átila de Paula is conducting the Amazonas Chamber Orchestra (OCA) and the stage direction.

And to end the FAO program in great style, on Thursday (05/30), the last presentation of the opera "Alma" (Soul) will take place, starting at 8pm, at the Teatro Amazonas.
