Amazon Folkloric Festival starts this Friday (9), at Ponta Negra

In addition to the performances of folklore groups, the festival will also feature the gastronomic fair run by the Chefs' Route.

Four days before the debut of the most traditional folkloric festival of the city, the 66 folkloric groups of the Bronze and Silver categories are preparing at full steam for the presentations in the 63rd Amazonas Folkloric Festivalpromoted by the Manaus City Hall, and that will take place in the amphitheater of the Ponta Negra Beach Tourist ComplexWest zone, from August 9 to 20.

This is the third year that the festival will be held in one of the main postcards of the city of Manaus. Besides the presentations of folkloric groups, the festival will also include a gastronomic fair commanded by the Rota dos Chefs.

In all, 66 dance groups, represented by their respective leagues or associations, contemplated through a public notice, will participate in this edition of the festival, being 48 in the Silver category and 18 in the Bronze category.

Among the novelties this year, attending to a request from the folkloric groups, the traditional stage for presentations gains new dimensions, 17×20 m, with the objective of improving the performances of the dances.

Attractions

Quadrilhas, cirandas, cacetinho, tribes, boi, national, international and northeastern dances will be presented by the groups in the dispute of their respective categories. This year, the jury is composed of the actor Fagner Coelho; the sociologist Maísa Arruda; the actor, director, and producer Michel Guerreiro; the singer and composer Robson Júnior; and the blogger and cultural critic Sinny Lopes.

In its last rehearsals and preparations, the traditional quadrilha Festança na Roça, for example, is getting ready for the presentation on August 16, with the theme "Luiz and Nazinha, a love story in the Sertão". According to the president Aldenor Saraiva, the group has existed for 23 years and has already accumulated seven titles in the Amazon Folkloric Festival, and, this year, the big tribute will be to the King of Baião, Luiz Gongaza.

"This is a story about Luiz Gonzaga's first love. We prepared this tribute by putting together a repertoire with a lot of love and we managed to create an exciting beginning, middle, and end. It is also a way to remember the importance of first love in people's lives, to emphasize that we don't need to skip steps," said Saraiva.
