The company responsible for managing an apartment located on the edge of Ponta Negra, West, was fined 501 Municipal Tax Units (UFMs), equivalent to approximately R$ 52.6 thousand, for having carried out cuts and drastic pruning of seven trees outside the enterprise, on the banks of the Negro River. Residents of the apartment, disgusted with the action of the current owners, denounced the irregularity with the environmental enforcement of Manaus Prefecture.
A team, composed of inspectors and technicians from the Cutting and Pruning sector of the Municipal Secretariat for Environment and Sustainability (Semmas), was on site and verified the action last Friday, 28/6.
"The cutting and pruning of trees are procedures that require authorization from the environmental agency to be carried out with the proper compensation," explains the manager of Cutting and Pruning of Semmas, Wellington Auzier. According to him, besides the impact it causes to the landscape, the drastic cutting and pruning of trees in permanent preservation areas is forbidden by law, which aggravates the situation.
According to the survey made by the technicians on apartment, the damage caused in four mango trees and three large apuize trees was initially assessed. But it is possible that other trees have been damaged.
The person responsible for the enterprise was charged with article 139, Subparagraph 1, of the city's Environmental Code, Law 605/2001, which considers it a very serious offense to suppress or sacrifice trees in permanent preservation areas and conservation units.
