Grito d'Água holds special edition in honor of World Water Day

The Grito D'água is one of the most important stream cleaning events around the capital and is also the first to unite sport and environmental awareness.

The Special Edition of the Projeto Grito d'Água will be on Saturday, March 23rd, starting at 7:30 a.m., departing from Abaré Floatingwhich is on the right bank of the Tarumã creek.

For this action the volunteers will use Stand Up Paddle (SUP) boards and Kayaks and will have a support boat to help in the collection of the residues collected in Tarumã.

For the journalist and one of the coordinators of the action, Agnaldo Oliveira Junior, the flood and the ebb of the Amazon rivers bring a big problem to the surface every year.

"Tons of garbage, left in the streams near Manaus appear in the Igarapé do Tarumã. This time, the water level is high and the garbage is hidden in the canopy", confirms Agnaldo.

"What we intend is, increasingly, to make the Amazon rivers and lakes cleaner and, consequently, more perennial", says businessman Diogo Vasconcelos, one of the supporters of the event.

Action

The action is the result of a union of efforts of Abaré SUP Floating, PONTOCOMM - Communication and Marketing and private initiative. The Grito D'água is one of the most important events for cleaning up the streams around the capital and is also the first to unite sports and environmental awareness.

"The intention is to join efforts so that, on this day, we can obtain important results when it comes to engagement and environmental marketing. The idea is always to motivate people through action and a single return that is a better future for our children and grandchildren," concludes Oliveira Júnior.

(R)Evolution

This is the eighth edition of the event that has engaged more and more people. Currently, about 50 volunteers are a continuous presence in all editions. As for what was removed, in the first edition a ton of garbage was collected, in the Grito D'água 2.0, a ton was also removed from the banks of the islets that form in the Tarumã. In the third edition, two tons were collected, in the fourth edition, 600 kilograms, in the fifth edition in December 2017, 18 tons of garbage were collected, in July 2018, one ton again, and in November, 8 tons.

Smart organization

The intelligence of the event, composed of experts from the two action directors, created the two actions. One, in the flood of the Amazon rivers, collecting the garbage from the so-called igapó forest and the canopy of trees that are partly covered by water, and the other in the ebb tide, when islets and sandbanks are formed that get a lot of garbage.
