"II Journey of Biological Sciences" gathers experts to discuss themes related to the Amazon

The program includes six lectures and three mini-courses aimed at students, teachers and external public.

Scientific lectures and mini-courses on themes related to the Amazon are part of the "II Biological Sciences Journey". of UniNorte, an event that brings together experts in the area, this Thursday (19) and Friday (20), at Unit 1 of the institution, at Joaquim Nabuco Avenue, 1281-1355, Center. Registration is still open and must be done at the event site, in advance.

The program includes six lectures and three mini-courses aimed at students, teachers and the external public. All activities will be led by experts and masters in areas related to Biology, involving agencies such as the National Institute for Amazon Research (Inpa), the Regional Council of Biology (CrBio), and the Civil Police of Amazonas.

This Thursday (19), at 8:45am, the event starts with an opening and welcome to participants by the course coordinator, professor Fabiane Almeida. Then, from 9h to 10h, there will be the lecture "The Performance and Role of CRBio", taught by the board member of the body, José Felipe de Souza Pinheiro. The program continues with the lecture "Applied research for conservation and analysis of genetic diversity of Amazonian fish species", with researcher and doctor Jorge Porto, from INPA.

In the afternoon, two mini-courses will take place, from 2pm to 5pm. The first has the theme "Characterization of Bryophytes of the Amazon region", with the Master in Botany Amanda Shirleia Pinheiro Boeira, and the second "How to identify microorganisms", conducted by Eliane Carvalho dos Santos, PhD in Biotechnology. The "Biological Sciences Day" ends the first day with the lecture "The Biologist and his role in forensic science", from 6:30pm to 7:45pm, by master and criminal expert Maryellen Iannuzzi, from the Civil Police.

On Friday (20th), the last day, the Journey opens with a lecture by the doctor in Genetics, Milena Ferreira dos Santos, at 9am. The event continues with a lecture on "Bioprospecting substances with biotechnological potential from the venom of anurans in the Amazon", at 10:10 am, given by André de Lima de Barros, Master in Biology.

At 2pm, Renata Schmitt, PhD and Master in Genetics, presents the mini-course "Molecular Biology as a tool for determining cryptic species". The "Journey of Biological Sciences at UniNorte" ends with the lecture "Knowing to conserve: What they 'don't' know about the Amazonian flora, at 6:30 pm, with doctor in Biological Chemistry, Eduardo Prata.
