The population of Manaus already has a Voluntary Delivery Station (PEV) operating in the Emporium Romalocated in the neighborhood Adrianópolis, South zone. With the support of the Manaus City Hall, the point for the spontaneous delivery of recyclable materials and packaging is drawing attention and positively impacting consumers who frequent the site.
Through the PEV, the recyclable materials will make their way back to the manufacturers to, finally, give life to another product, passing through the collectors, until they reach the manufacturers again. This is the idea behind the partnership between the Municipal Department of Urban Cleaning (Semulsp) and the local retail market, which resulted in this first initiative.
The manager of Emporium Roma, Michel Harisson, points out that separating garbage is a simple initiative that contributes significantly to the environment, besides helping to generate jobs for thousands of families that work in the recycling area.
Productive chain
On the other hand, working the selective collection and support the recycling chain in Manaus can be a good business for private enterprise. This is what the retail chain Emporium Roma is starting to realize. "We only have positive points to count about this initiative. Since the collection started, the containers are filled almost daily, demanding two direct removals to local collectors. Our employees have also joined in and dispose of their waste", says Michel Harrison.
Semulsp's teams will also be frequently working in the area around the Emporium with awareness-raising actions. "This is a reverse logistics channel and should serve as many people as possible. We are already noticing the presence of our neighbors using this channel. We also see some customers who, right after buying, already discard the secondary packaging of the products purchased, even before taking their products home. These are positive signs that show us we are on the right track," says Harrison.
The Manaus City Hall is responsible for monitoring the development to ensure that everything goes as required by law and encourage new initiatives. "Our goal is to extend this measure to other establishments and thus promote the production chain in Manaus," concludes the secretary of Semulsp.
How to dispose of it
Before delivering it for recycling, the orientation is for people to clean the cans, bottles, glass and plastic bottles with water. Paper should be dry, it can be folded, but should not be crushed. If you have broken glass and other sharp materials, the ideal is to wrap them in thick newspaper-type paper or put them in a box to avoid accidents.
