The announcement was made during the 12th edition of the event, which is taking place at Teatro Solís, in Montevideo, Uruguay, after a vote in which the capital of Amazonas competed with the cities of Cali (Colombia) and Lima (Peru).
It will be the first time that Brazil will host the event. According to the Secretary of Culture of Amazonas, Marcos Apolo Muniz, the meeting will be important for the State, including bringing investments to Amazonas.
"It is a great victory for the State Culture, since the OLA is an internationally recognized organization. It will certainly be important for us to continue placing the Amazonas State culture in an international level, enabling investments from other countries in our culture, which will benefit the state in this work that we are developing, in a collective way, in the generation of work and income for the population", she points out.
For Flávia Furtado, FAO's executive producer, who represents the festival at the meeting in Montevideo, the choice will be a watershed for the work done in Manaus.
"Brazil has four active theaters in the OLA, but had never been chosen to host this meeting, which brings together all members to discuss the paths of opera in the world. The choice of the Teatro Amazonas is the recognition of our work. It will be a watershed for the Festival Amazonas de Ópera, since we will be at the forefront of discussions, we will promote visits to the theater and the CTP (Central Production Technique), where everyone will be able to know in loco our work", he comments.
