Fans of horror cinema will have a varied and totally free programming next week, from 5 to 10/8, from 1pm, at the Gebes Medeiros Theater (Av. Eduardo Ribeiro, 937, Centro, Zona Sul). Organized by the State Secretary of Culture (SEC), the Mostra Manaus Fantastic Horror Film Festival will have six workshops, screening six features and 41 short films of the genre.
Idealizer of the event, the artistic programming manager of the Art Film Society of SEC, Márcio Nascimento, notes that horror films have many fans in Manaus and it was necessary to open a space for this audience. "It is a genre that stirs people's emotional reaction and primal fears. Given the growth of productions and the existence of few places for them, I had the idea of gathering local filmmakers and hold this showcase, thus opening an exhibition window for national producers, "he explains.
Márcio highlights that the honoree of the Manaus Fantastic Horror Film Festival is the filmmaker from Espírito Santo Rodrigo Aragãowho will have his productions screened at the event. "He already has five feature films and is considered by many the successor of Zé do Caixão," he points out. "Mangue Negro", "A Noite do Chupacabras", "Mar Negro", "As Fábulas Negras", and "A Mata Negra", which bear Aragão's signature, will be screened from Tuesday to Saturday (August 6 to 10), starting at 6:30pm. The indicative rating is 16 years old.
It will also be possible to see short films by Amazonian filmmakers and guests from other states. The short films will be screened on August 6th, 8th, 9th, and 10th, from 4:30pm to 6pm. The indicative rating is 12 years old.
Besides the films, the program includes workshops on make-up, soundtrack, photography direction, and production. The activities will take place from 1pm to 5pm and those interested can sign up on site, from noon to 1pm.
The public will also find at the Mostra a thematic decoration, stands selling horror shirts, make-up, souvenirs, comics, and a room with classic horror books by national and international writers, and local legends.
