One more activity has been included in the Microentrepreneur category: the application driver. The resolution was published this Thursday (08) in the Official Gazette and regulated the decree 9.792, of May this year, allowing this segment to be formalized.
Paulo Pajaro, from Santo André, in the ABC region of São Paulo, is 50 years old and used to work as a teacher of professionalizing courses and in sales management. Four years ago he changed his activity and started to provide services to a company as an application driver. The novelty was well received by him.
"This way, now, I can collect and have the right of the time that I am dedicating here driving for others, to also have the right in the future to count for my retirement time," said Pajaro.
MEI rights and obligations
Besides counting time for retirement, when registering as an MEI, the worker also has access to social security rights, such as unemployment insurance and sickness benefit.
They can also issue invoices for the services rendered, since they have a CNPJ, a legal entity registration. But it also has obligations, such as paying the Document of Collection of the National Simple in the amount of R$ 54.90 per month.
MEI: numbers and rules
To become an MEI, the worker cannot be a partner or owner in another company. The turnover with the activity can also not be greater than R$ 81,000 per year.
Currently, according to the Ministry of Economy, there are 8.7 million entrepreneurs registered in the MEI in the country and, with the inclusion of the application driver, 463 professions are included in the category of individual microentrepreneur.

Anyone who wants to start a business or is already self-employed and earns up to R$81,000 per year can become an Individual Microentrepreneur (MEI).
