Concerts

And already on Tuesday (8), the OCA takes the stage of the theater to present the opening concert of the series, celebrating the 15 years of existence of the orchestra, with pieces by Georg Philipp Telemann, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Nikolai Sokoloff and Steve Reich. Conducted by Marcelo de Jesus, the show brings as soloists the tenor Jefferson Nogueira, from the Grupo Vocal do Coral do Amazonas, and the French soprano Isabelle Sabrié, who lives in Manaus.

By Telemann, OCA will perform his suite La Bizarre, TWV 55:G2, divided between the movements Ouverture,CouranteGavotte en RondeauBranleSarabandeFantasieMenuet 1Menuet 2 e Rossignol. Born in the town of Magdeburg, Germany, in 1681, Telemann is considered one of the most prolific composers in history, with over 800 credited works. He died in Hamburg, at the age of 86, in 1767.

The second piece of the concert is the Nocturne for Four Orchestra, K. 286by Mozart. In three movements -andanteallegretto grazioso e menuetto and trio -, the work was composed in 1776, initially for the Salzburg Carnival. Its composer is considered a genius, having composed more than 600 works, including operas, sonatas, chamber music, symphonies, among other pieces, in only 35 years of his life.

From Sokoloff, the piece of this time is Second Serenade for string orchestra, op. 23. Born in Kiev, Ukraine, in 1886, Nikolai Sokoloff studied at Yale University in the United States, and in 1916 and 1917 he was music director of the San Francisco Philharmonic Orchestra. He was also the founder of the Cleveland Orchestra, in Ohio, where he remained from 1918 until 1932.

To close the presentation, OCA will perform the piece Different Trainsby Jewish American composer Steve Reich, born in 1936 and still alive. Divided into three movements - America-Before the WarEurope-During the War,After the War -, the play reflects on the Holocaust. During World War II, Reich was traveling between New York and Los Angeles to visit his parents who had separated. Years later, while composing the play, Reich thought that instead of visiting his parents, he might be inside a train on the way to a concentration camp.
