Palco Giratório brings 20 performances and 11 free attractions to Manaus

Recognized in the Brazilian cultural scene as one of the most important projects of diffusion and exchange of the Performing Arts (theater, dance, circus, urban intervention and performance), the Palco Giratório comes to Manaus, in its 22nd edition, starting this Tuesday, July 2nd. In all, will be 20 free performances and 11 cultural attractions in various parts of Manaus, from 2 to July 25.

Created in 1998, the Palco Giratório intensifies audience formation by circulating shows of the most varied genres in all Brazilian states. Many of these shows would be difficult to find commercial viability without Sesc's support.

In addition to shows for all age groups, a vast program of workshops, festivals, round tables and lectures is held with the active participation of the community, local artists and guests, promoting an exchange of enriching experiences, divulging the work of professionals from all over the country, and generating jobs for the countless workers who work in the circuit.

The shows selected by the curators have as characteristics the mixture of accents, the different artistic expressions and creation modes. Sesc is committed to supporting artistic manifestations aimed at cultural development and the democratization of national culture.

Synopsis: A theater show decided to bring the backwoods of Rio Grande do Norte to Amazonas. "Meu Seridó" will provide the audience with an imaginary and delirious tour through this archaic and mythical place. A nostalgic territory of arengas and loves. In just one hour, ten thousand years will pass before the spectators' eyes. Universal when talking about the village itself, "Meu Seridó" is, above all, about the most current (and eternal) of themes. It deals with the relationship between Man and Earth - which, at the beginning of this millennium, has reached a serious impasse. Everything, of course, with a lot of humor, music, and good doses of reflection.

"Bring me the Head of Lima Barreto" - Cia dos Comuns (BA - RJ) - Theater

Date/Time: July 8 - Show - 8pm - Teatro Amazonas
Rating: 14 years
Synopsis: Freely inspired in the work of Lima Barreto (1881-1922), especially in the books "Diário íntimo" and "Cemitério dos vivos", the theatrical monologue "Bring me the head of Lima Barreto" gathers excerpts of memories printed in his works, intertwined with free imagination. The fictional text begins soon after the writer's death, when eugenicists demand the exhumation of his corpse for an autopsy to clarify "how an inferior brain could have produced so many literary works - novels, chronicles, short stories, essays, and other alfarrages - if the privilege of noble art and good writing is of the superior races?" From this clash with the eugenicists, the play shows the various facets of Lima Barreto's personality and genius, his life, his family, the madness, the alcoholism, the racism, his living with poverty, his unrecognized work, his memories and sorrows.

After the shots were fired, her body was hurriedly thrown into the police van and dragged away alive in the middle of the traffic of Rio de Janeiro's capital, under the horrified eyes of drivers and pedestrians. Interweaving true fact and fictional narrative, this manifesto piece shows the tragic figure of Cláudia reclaiming what had been erased during the journalistic coverage of the case: her own name, replaced by the impersonal, violent and cruel nickname of "Dragged Woman".

"Das Cinzas Coração" - Quimera Criações Artísticas & Teatro Ateliê (RS) - Circus

Date/Time: July 17 - 8pm - Teatro Amazonas
Classification: 12 years
Synopsis: What is the sense of a circus-theater show of the 21st century using the language of cinema from a hundred years ago, to tell a story of female oppression set in 1920? It is because these scenes go on today in real life, in every corner, all social classes and religious or political orientations. From the ashes the heart jokes that it is silent cinema in black and white, with a live soundtrack by a period pianist. To make people laugh with Aurora, who squeezes as much poetry as possible out of her already shriveled and not very sweet home. Because we believe that there is nothing more transformative than laughter. Aristotle already said that. But we have as reference a contemporary philosopher: the brilliant filmmaker Buster Keaton.

"Aquelas - Uma dieta Pra Caber no Mundo" - Manada Teatro (CE) - Theater

Date/Time: July 18 - 8pm - Teatro Amazonas
Rating: 14 years
Synopsis: "Those" retraces the story of Maria de Bil, popular saint of the town of Várzea Alegre (CE). Murdered in 1926 by her "companion", transformed into a martyr, to this day she is a devotion icon of the people of the region. In the show, which mixes the story of the saint with the personalities of the performers, the audience is invited to participate in the preparation of an indigestible dinner involving knives, meat, blood, and other elements, offered to the table with the bodies of the actresses/performers themselves. A delicate and cruel staging that presents, through performative frames, a kaleidoscope of the diverse forms of violence in a macho society. Bon appetit!

Date/Time: July 19 - 7pm - Les Artistes Café Teatro
Rating: 12 years
Synopsis: This show is about a body imprisoned by a political sense that disfavors a third of the huge Brazilian population. It is not the question of remaining and belonging to that place, but of being treated as just a mere body. A body built as an expenditure of muscular energy, in the midst of streets, avenues, alleys, lanes, ups and downs, in an unequal city. Environments in which one of the greatest challenges for the human being is to sustain himself in front of his own body.

"Voa" - Coletivo Antônia (DF) - Children's Theater

Date/Time: July 21 - 5pm - Les Artistes Café Teatro
Classification: Free
Synopsis: Loosely inspired by Rubem Alves' "The Girl and the Enchanted Bird," "Voa" travels the path of subtleties and senses, dealing with complicity and longing, but mostly with freedom. The girls and the birds that inhabit the tale play, in the show, with many possible friendship relationships, in ambiences that stimulate the baby's interaction with the lights, the sounds, the scents and the scenography. Between the comings and goings of a traveling bird, "Voa" transgresses the traditional notions of time, space, and love. The company's second show, "Voa" premiered in February 2017, with absolute success with audiences and critics. Since then, it has been tracing paths of circulation and expansion. It was the only show for babies selected for the 18th edition of the Brasília International Theater Festival - Cena Contemporânea.

Classification: Free
Synopsis: An immersive dance experience using tactile stimuli, a sound installation, and interaction with dancers. A show that sees the issue of accessibility of the performance to visually impaired people as a creative stimulus, not as a translation. "Tandan!" is inspired by the works of Helio Oiticica and Lygia Clark, with their provocations of the act of perceiving the visual arts in a broader sensory appreciation of the work.
