The vacation programming at the Sumaúma State Park starts this Saturday (4), from 8am, with several free activities for the whole family. Lectures on the importance of the Conservation Unit (UC), counting birds and outdoor trails are some of the leisure options at the site.
The month of January is known for being the period of the year when many people are on vacation from school and work. With this in mind, Sumaúma Park will promote, during the month, several free activities for the entire population. Besides the playground, interpretive trails in the forest area, and an open-air gym, the park will also have, this Saturday, a lecture about the importance of the local fauna and flora, and a bird counting activity.
The lecture and the bird count will be conducted by Dayse Campista, Master in Ecology and technical advisor of the Environmental Education Center of Sema. "The objective is to identify and count the birds that appear in the conservation unit. The counting of species occurs from November to January all over the world. With the results of the count we are able to collect data to help researchers better understand the birds' behavior", she highlighted.
Approximately 60 species of birds can be observed in Sumaúma Park, such as thrush, toucans, macaws, parrots, parakeets, surucuás, aracuãs, among others. The place also has several species of fruit plants, which are food resources used by the birds. The population can also make use of the paved trail to practice physical activities.
Bird Counts
The bird counting trails will take place at two times on Saturday: at 8am and at 10am. It is recommended to wear closed shoes (sneakers or boots), sunscreen, and cool, comfortable clothes, like those worn for physical activities. For bird counting, it is also recommended to use binoculars and cameras to register the birds.
It is also important that visitors bring a bottle or squeeze bottle with water for hydration, paying attention to the proper disposal of waste in the garbage cans installed in the common areas of the park.
Sumaúma Park, located in Cidade Nova, north of Manaus, is the only UC in an urban area managed by the State Secretary of Environment (Sema).
