O Ponte dos Bilhares Park will host, from 12 to 16/6, the I Festival of Popular Culturewith the aim of promoting the rescue of various popular cultural manifestations. The event will feature daily presentations of folk dance groups, June quadrilhas, cirandas, and boi-bumbás, and is a realization of the Official Access Group of Popular Culturewith the support of the Manaus City Hall.
In total, 25 participating groups will be distributed over the five days of programming, five groups each day. The presentations start at 6pm, but the food court with the typical food stalls will be open from 4pm. Each presentation will have a maximum duration of 40 minutes.
One of the coordinators of the event, Dudson Carvalho, adviser to Concultura, explains that the purpose of the festival is to promote the rescue of popular culture in its various forms of manifestation and not only to hold a competition between the quadrilhas, as happens in most folkloric festivals.
"The idea was born from a proposal by the representatives of the popular culture segments in the council to have an event that would bring together the various popular cultural manifestations around the June traditions, and Concultura embraced the idea with the purpose of putting the Popular Culture Festival in the cultural calendar of the municipality," explains Dudson.
Groups of cangaço (Cabras de Lampião), capoeira (Amigos da ZL and ABC), maracatus (Manto Azul), bois-bumbás (Boi Branquinho and Galante), and traditional quadrilhas such as Jack na Roça, Gold na Roça, Reino Unido, Rosas da Noite, Brotinhos do Petrópolis and Brotinhos do Coroado will be participating.
