In the three days of celebration, the Official Parade of Samba Schools of Manaus Carnival 2019 will have an accessible box for people with disabilities who want to watch the performances at the Convention Center (Sambadrome). The action is carried out by the State Secretariat for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (Seped), and the parades take placeand the parades will take place on February 28, March 1 and 2.
In the accessible box, two interpreters of Libras will be available per night. The space will be 8 meters wide by 6 meters long, with capacity for 30 people, and one companion per disabled person will be allowed. Both will be received by Seped's staff, who will be on site to provide all the necessary guidance on the applicability of the laws that protect the rights of PWDs. The cabin was entirely designed by the secretariat's accessibility sector, aiming at the inclusion of people with disabilities in one of the biggest events in the state.
"The objective of the accessibility sector is to develop accessibility policies for people with disabilities, planning and proposing inclusion actions. With this, the projected area is in accordance to NBR 9050, which guarantees accessibility. The inclusive cabin has a ramp to facilitate access, besides meeting the NBR 9077 in the escape route issue", explained the sector manager, Valéria Teles.
The Seped secretary, Viviane Lago Lima, states that the idea is to make the secretariat be present in all major events in Amazonas, providing access and visibility to people with disabilities. "It was already a conversation with the governor, since the beginning of the administration, that in all these major events we could be providing total access and total visibility to people with disabilities, and it could not be otherwise in the Carnival at the Sambódromo. So, our box will be accessible, where all the employees of the secretariat will be available to receive these people," says the holder of the folder.
Access
During the three days of the event, the accessible box will be located on the left side of the Sambadrome, in front of the bleachers and 'G' boxes.
On days 28/2 (Thursday) and 1/3 (Friday), day of the samba school parades of Access Groups A, B and C, the perimeter of the avenue Pedro Teixeira will be free, facilitating access to the site.
On 2/3, the day that the samba school parades of the Special Group will take place, the perimeter will be closed, and people can park in the Olympic Village of Manaus. There, a minibus from Transporta will be available, provided by the Municipal Superintendence of Urban Transportation (SMTU), which will transfer people with disabilities to the Sambadrome.
Approach
According to secretary Viviane Lago Lima, the novelty this year is the right approaches, which will also be made by Seped. "We will be there making approaches to find out how the applicability of the Law is being made, if the rights are being executed, if the Law is being applied, if these people with disabilities know about Seped, if they know the secretariat, informing them that we are here so that the public policies can reach them", the secretary emphasized.
