The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 9am to 5pm, with free admission for the population.
More than a thousand visitors passed through the premises of the Museum of the City of Manaus in the morning of this Wednesday, 24/10, the date that celebrates the 349th anniversary of the city of Manaus. Students, national and foreign tourists, Amazonians from different municipalities and many manauaras circulated through the exhibitions, which mix technology and history, rescuing the identity of the Amazon people.
The museum, located in the Historical Center, more precisely in the Paço da Liberdadebrings back the different identities of the manauara people, besides being a gift delivered to the population on the anniversary of the capital of Amazonas.
Even before the opening of the museum, Darcilene Davies from Rondonia was already waiting, along with her two children and her mother of Bolivian origin, to see the permanent exhibition "The City of Manaus: History, People and Culture".
After visiting all the museum's facilities, Darcilene said she was delighted with what she saw, especially the testimonial room that brings together people from different backgrounds who were welcomed by Manaus.
Technological Museum
The CEO of the Municipal Foundation of Culture, Tourism and Events (Manauscult), Bernardo Monteiro de Paula, highlighted the quality of the exhibitions that the identity museum brings and also emphasized the structure that the space offers to those who visit it.
"The museum is technological, interactive and intuitive. You can, for example, come here and choose not to have the guided tour and download the app on your cell phone and find on your own what may interest you the most. We have all the structure to receive visually impaired people with trained guides, but if they want to go alone, the whole museum has a tactile floor and we provide headsets with information about the exhibitions," explained Bernardo.
The museum
Being a museum of identity, the exhibits refer to the cultural traces of a culturally rich Manaus, but with the use of technology and interactivity. This results in a mix of ethnicities, colors, and cultures that helped transform the Amazon capital into a great metropolis.
The City Museum was created by Mayor João de Mendonça Furtado, through Law 1.616, of June 17, 1982, but never functioned or even opened. Now, 36 years later, Manaus gains a museum that represents the identity and life of the Manaus people.
The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 9am to 5pm, with free admission for the population.
