North Region: Businessmen from the hotel sector are optimistic with tourist spending in summer

Ministry of Tourism survey also identified intention to increase job generation

A survey conducted by the Ministry of Tourism in October this year analyzed the perception of hotel businessmen in the country regarding the performance and prospects of their establishments and destinations. In the North region, the Business Survey showed that 44.3% expect tourists to spend more on their trips in the next four months, the period of the 2020 summer season.

The study also indicates that 85.7% of respondents intend to invest in their business by March 2020 and 15.5% expect to hire more employees. In addition, 52.4% believe that the demand for the services offered will increase and 54.7% project an increase in the company's revenues. The entrepreneurs were also positive in relation to the expansion of tourism in the region for the next six months: 42% believe that there will be an increase in the sector's profitability and 48% expect an increase in demand for the destination.

For the Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, the survey data show the results achieved after a year of work for the development of tourism. "The optimism of the entrepreneurs is a reflection of a series of actions taken by this government that have provided a favorable environment for investment. We have worked during all these months to improve the quality of tourist destinations and services in order to serve tourists and the population. I am sure that the summer season will be a success", celebrated the minister.

The survey also evaluated the performance of the means of accommodation in the third quarter of 2019 compared to the same period last year. Almost 30% of entrepreneurs said they had employed more employees this year, while 50.6% identified growth in company revenues and 55% said that the demand for the services offered grew.

In addition, 36.3% of the interviewed lodging facility owners claimed growth in the profitability of the tourism sector in the period July to September 2019; 43.8% stated an increase in demand for the destination and 45.7% stated that visitors spent more during their trip.

Survey

The Business Survey of the Hotel Sector in Brazil is conducted by the Undersecretariat of Innovation and Knowledge Management of the Ministry of Tourism. It consults lodging enterprises of all sizes, including hotels, inns, resorts, and tourist camps.
