SEC opens registrations for course on 'Braille System

Classes aim to prepare educators to properly assist a visually impaired person.

A Braille Library of Amazonasof the State Secretariat of Culture (SEC), will offer, as of Monday (11/3), the course Braille System. The objective is to prepare people to adequately help the visually impaired.

The course will be held at the library's headquarters, located in Block C of the Sambódromo, on Avenida Pedro Teixeira, Dom Pedro neighborhood. The classes will take place during the opening hours of the space, which is open from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 5pm.

According to the library manager and professor of the course, Gilson Pereira, the initiative is aimed at educators, students, family members of visually impaired people and other interested parties.

"The didactic material, such as ruler, punch and Braille sheets, will be offered free of charge by the library. The course has a 200-hour workload and will comprise classes on the history and conceptualization of the Braille system, reading the system, writing in Braille, alphabet, accentuation, punctuation, and educational practices", points out Pereira.

Enrollments are free of charge and may be done directly at the library or by the telephones (92) 99969-6489 / 99111-8734. The student can arrange the best time to attend the course, directly with manager Gilson Pereira.

Artistic Initiation Courses

Starting on March 19th, the Braille Library will also offer artistic courses for the visually impaired, such as: keyboard classes, Tuesdays and Thursdays; and guitar, Wednesdays and Fridays. All classes will be held in the morning.

Enrollment for these courses can also be made in the Library or by phone, free of charge.
