Indigenous people are profound connoisseurs of their environment, plants, animals and observe the influence of astronomy in their daily lives.
With a free and diverse program, which includes lectures, workshops, planetary sessions and sky watching, the Science Room of Sesc AM will promote the II Indigenous Astronomy Weekon April 25th and 26th. The event is a partnership between Sesc and the Department of Physics at the Federal University of Amazonas (Ufam) and will be held in the hall Zezinho Correa, which is located in the unit Sesc Balneary, in Av. Constantinopla, 288, Alvorada.
In this second edition, the event will have the presence of Nélio Sasaki, professor and coordinator of the Center for Astronomy Teaching and Research at the Amazonas State University (UEA). With a long curriculum dedicated to the field of Astronomy, Sasaki will give the opening lecture on the 25th, at 2 pm. After Sasaki's presentation, Professor Walter Esteves, from the Physics Department of the Federal University of Amazonas (Ufam) and coordinator of the Brazilian Astronomy Olympiad in Amazonas, will give the lecture "Constellation of the Indians in Brazil".
After the lectures, the Mobile Digital Planetarium of Sesc AM, will be offered sky observation from the indigenous view, in 360° projection and workshops related to astronomy. Also on the 25th, starting at 6pm, the Ufam's Astronomy Club will be conducting a moment of sky watching with a telescope.
On the 26th, the event will start at 8:30 am, with a lecture by the students of Ufam's Cosmos Project, with the themes "How we know what we know about astronomy" e "Sky observations with the use of technology".. Next, there will be a workshop on building and launching rockets made with PET bottles, and a Visualized Gravity workshop. At 2 pm, the UEA Biology student and science communicator Yara Laiz gives a lecture with the theme "How to live on Mars. From 15h, there will be the circuit of workshops and sessions, in the Digital Planetarium of Sesc, with a trip to the Solar System.
The II Indigenous Astronomy Week aims to value the regional indigenous culture, understanding that the observation of the sky has always been at the base of the societies' knowledge. Indigenous people have a deep knowledge of their environment, plants, animals, and observe the influence of astronomy in their daily lives.
Registration for the II Indigenous Astronomy Week is open, is free and can be made by sending your full name, CPF and schooling to the e-mail [email protected]. School groups can also register and the school will receive a certificate of participation.
