Claudio Santoro's symphonies in free concert at Teatro Amazonas

The Amazonas Philharmonic presents works by the Amazonian composer this Thursday (22/8), at 8pm. The concert will have free admission.

A Amazonas Philharmonic takes the stage at the Amazonas Theater(22/8), this Thursday (22/8), at 8pm, to pay homage to maestro Claudio Santoro with a presentation of three works: the "Symphonies n.1 and n.6and the "Brasiliana. The concert will be conducted by conductor Marcelo de Jesus, and admission is free.

The "Symphony No. 1" is a work from Santoro's first period, from the 1940s, and was created for two string orchestras. "In this first period of Santoro, we have a young conductor, with a lot of energy, and the work is dense, of great technical difficulty. For this symphony, two string orchestras are assembled, something not very usual for Santoro, so the audience will see it as if they were two Chamber Orchestras on stage," says the conductor.

Next, "Symphony No. 6" brings lighter movements to the audience, and is one of the landmarks of the period of nationalism in music. "This is perhaps Santoro's lightest symphony, which is full of Brazilian themes. It is one of the apexes of his nationalist moment," highlights Marcelo de Jesus.

The program closes with "Brasiliana," a work that the maestro from the Amazon composed when he was in Russia. "It is a reference to the sound world of Brazil," explains the conductor. "It has three movements, and they are all very Brazilian. The second one is reminiscent of Bossa Nova. It's a great piece to end the program, it has several outbursts that will please the public," declares the conductor.

Also in allusion to the centennial of the death of Claudio Santoro, the Amazonas Philharmonic presents works by the maestro in the orchestra's program every month. "This year we will also present the piano concerto and Symphony No. 10," says Marcelo de Jesus.
