Singer Márcia Novo, one of the organizers of the festival, explains that the project aims to protect the Tarumã-Açu river area with environmental awareness and cleaning actions, as well as to promote social inclusion through sports and culture.
"The Tarumã River is at risk and our purpose is to draw attention to this problem and to engage the community that frequents the river and the floats to be more environmentally conscious, not to throw garbage and to demand enforcement in this leisure area of the city," says the producer. "Our actions of waste collection are essential to reduce, in a small scale, the impact of pollution and of great importance to give visibility to the problem of pollution. In each edition we have more volunteers, which allows more waste to be collected. In the last edition, for example, nine tons of waste were collected.
Gymkhana
Marcia adds that, during the event, there will also be waste collection at Praia da Lua, it is the King and Queen of Garbage Gymkhana.
"It's another cleaning task-force and whoever collects the most garbage will be rewarded with a kit of sustainability products", says the organizer. "We are going to work on people's little minds so that they don't throw garbage on the beach, that they separate their waste correctly. We will have selective collection points throughout the event.
