Gebes Medeiros Theater celebrates 19 years with special programming

Artists from various segments are part of the special program over two days of the event, which will have free admission.

To celebrate 19 years of activities, the Gebes Medeiros Theater (Av. Eduardo Ribeiro, 937, Centro, Ideal Clube) will have a special program on Monday and Tuesday (25 and 26/11), bringing together artists from various segments such as Rosa Malagueta, Serginho Queiroz, Márcia Siqueira, Michel Guerrero, Zezinho Corrêa and the group The Birutas. The event will have free admission.

On the day of the anniversary, on Monday (11/25), from 6pm, Ana Oliveira will present parts of the show "(I) Mundo de Sofia", which shows a clown-cleaner who lives the hard reality of a heavy job that puts her, many times, in a situation of invisibility. Afterwards, singer Serginho Queiroz will give a pocket show of Brazilian Popular Music.

Continuing the program, the actress Rosa Malagueta will perform an excerpt from the play "My name isn't Johnny, it's Maria", in which, based on the world of Maria, the central character, it is possible to reflect on the innumerous women, "the Marias of Brazil outside".

Márcia Siqueira, James Rios, Jefferson Mariano, and Hácara Ariela will present, in the sequence, an excerpt from the show "Afro Brasilis".

The evening will also include the "Lady Parker Show" by Michel Guerrero; pop rock by Luso Neto; excerpts from the show "Quem casa, quer casa", with Ana Cláudia Motta, Gomes de Lima, Magda Loiana, and Raphael Frota; "Maroca Popcorn Show", with Wallace Abreu; and a pocket show by Zezinho Corrêa.

On the occasion will also be made a tribute to the artist Oscarino Varjão, who for many years was Master of Ceremonies of the theater. The tribute will consist of the exhibition of parts of a documentary about the artist and the participation of Peteleco, the dummy that the Amazon ventriloquist eternalized.

On Tuesday (11/26), the children's audience is invited to watch the show "Monster Hunter", with Os Birutas. There will be two sessions: at 9am and 2pm. In the comedy, the monster Abigobaldo seeks the degradation of the environment with pollution, spreading garbage wherever he goes. However, the Military Battalion summons the fearless warriors Cocada, Anjinho and their commander Palito for a heroic hunting mission.

About the theater

Set in the Ideal Clube, one of the best-attended halls in Amazonian society in the 20th century, the Gebes Medeiros Theater started its activities on November 25, 2000, as a scenic space for cultural diffusion. Its name is a tribute to the artist from Alagoas, who became a journalist, lawyer, member of the Academia Amazonense de Letras, and one of the organizers of the Teatro Escola Amazonense de Amadores.

The building, which was built between 1918 and 1921, underwent a renovation in 2014 to better host weekly shows produced by artists from the region - performed and/or supported by the State Department of Culture and Creative Economy - in languages such as theater, film, dance, popular and classical music, and that aim to train audiences.

It also housed the rehearsals of the Balé Folclórico do Amazonas, a company that is part of the State Artistic Bodies.

In 2019, the theater received new repairs, including changing the floor and acquiring new reflectors. From February to October this year, the Gebes Medeiros held 133 activities, adding an audience of more than four thousand people.
