The most internationally successful boi-bumbá toada completes, this April, 22 years of its explosion on the European and North American markets. It was in 1996, in this same month, that the Amazonian band Carrapicho landed in Paris to promote the album "Festa do Boi Bumbáwhich had as its flagship tune the toada "Tic Tic Tac"by Braulino Lima, a native of Parintiná, one of the great works from the vast musical collection of the Boi Garantido.
The Russian version of the work was remembered by the newspaper Folha de São Paulo, signed by journalist Fábio Aleixo. The article is among several stories about the culture of the country that will host the 2018 World Cup. The video clip was recorded by musician and singer Murat Nasyrov, a Russian pop star who died in 2007.
In the second half of the 1990s, Braulino's toada reached #1 in Portugal and France (AFP), #2 in Belgium and #3 in Spain, selling over 1 million copies in those four countries alone.
The singer and leader of Carrapicho, Zezinho Correa, remembers that the band recorded versions also in English and Spanish, in partnership with the Chilli group (North American). "For me it is a great happiness to know that the music gained this dimension with my voice, and that today it is representative of our country," says Zezinho.
National and international hits
The Boi Garantido has, in its vast discography, other works that have won the national and even international charts. The toada "Vermelho" (Chico da Silva) (Chico da Silva) has gained national recognition with Fafá de Belém in 1996, and internationally when it was adopted as one of the main shouts of the Benfica soccer team of Portugal.
Also in the list are "Paixão de Coração" (Demetrios Haidos and Geandro Pantoja) performed by Daniela Mercury and Boi Garantido at the Copacabana New Year's Eve 2010 also composing the Bahia artist's DVD.
In 2018, Perrechés do Brasil (Ivo Meireles, Sandro Putinok and Vanderley Alvino) has been part of several events in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, especially at Bar da Brahma.
"We feel very honored to have the toadas of the Boi Garantido being played all over the planet. This enhances our culture and helps to promote our Festival in a great way", evaluated Fábio Cardoso, president of Garantido.
