In 1995, the detective and bicycle mechanic, Valdenor Queiroz, 73, could not imagine that his "gadget", the tricycle, would become the main means of visitor mobility in the Tupinambarana Island (369 kilometers from Manaus). Queiroz is one of the pioneers in the creation of the sustainable vehicle, which is the second best rated item in the satisfaction survey conducted with tourists who go to watch the shows of the Parintins Folkloric Festival.
"I didn't make any money, but I am happy because I benefited more than 10,000 people in Parintins, in their daily sustenance. Now, any workshop produces the tricycle. I didn't mind passing the measurements. For me it is a glory to be able to help these wonderful people from my land", said Valdenor.
Research by the Amazonas State Tourism Company (Amazonastur) indicated that, in last year's Festival, 93.14% of the tourists interviewed approved the creation of the island's "paddle". The vehicle appeared in the survey as the most used means of transport during the period of the bovine festivities, reaching a percentage of 45.64%. The average total satisfaction with the item in the period from 2010 to 2018 was also the second highest, with 87.32%.
This year, Amazonastur promoted two stages of the Workshop Well Receive, training 200 tricycle drivers and also standardizing the professionals with uniforms and painting the vehicles in accordance with the festival, in addition to a plate "Tricicleiro Pai D'Égua".
For the president of the Association of Tourist Tricycle of Parintins (ATTP), Rafael Gonçalves, the initiative of the State Government, through Amazonastur, contributes even more to a better treatment for tourists who land in Parintins.
"We need to be capacitated and organized to receive the people who visit our island. Culture is not only the Boi-Bumbá. The visitor also comes to ride a tricycle and get to know our popular culture. There is a tricycle only in Parintins. It is a pleasant thing to ride. The approval ratings motivate us increasingly to organize ourselves, "said the president.
Tricycle rider for 20 years, Josevandro Guimarães, 39, said that the course gave the basis for the category well receive the tourist in Parintins. "We learn how to work with tourism," said the professional. "We learned how to get close to the tourist, how to inform about the attractions.
