One route and many destinations between Amazonas and Roraima

Rota 174, between Manaus (AM) and Pacaraima (RR), is over a thousand kilometers long and takes the visitor to some of the main tourist attractions in Northern Brazil.

BR-174 connects the southern hemisphere with the northern hemisphere and provides the traveler with an itinerary that can last 10 days - the longest - leaving from Manaus to reach PacaraimaPacaraima, on the border with Venezuela and 1,100 km away from the starting point, where the expeditions to Mount Roraima begin. The journey through the exuberant rainforest passes through several natural attractions, besides providing cultural and gastronomic experiences of indigenous and caboclo influence. The highway, the only land connection between Roraima and the rest of Brazil, also crosses the Waimiri-Atroari Indigenous Reserve.

Starting in Manaus, the largest city in the region, visitors can mix history and nature in the itinerary with a visit to the Historical Center where the iconic Amazonas Theater and the Adolpho Lisboa Municipal Market with the aromas and flavors of the forest. The river tour on the Negro River takes you to the Meeting of the Waters with the Solimões, where the Amazon is formed. The tour includes the Seringal Museuman indigenous community with typical rituals from the upper Rio Negro and diving with the pink river dolphins. Still in Amazonas, route 174 leads to Presidente Figueiredoa natural paradise full of trails, rivers, waterfalls, cascades, caves and cave paintings among other attractions of the forest. The most visited places are the Santuário, Iracema Falls, Salto do Ipy and Pedra Furada waterfalls.

Route 174 crosses the Equator Line in Rorainópolis (RR), near the Nova Colina district where the Equator Line Landmark is located. One of the overnight options in this stretch of forest is at the Viruá National Park, in a camping tent, in the municipality of Caracaraí. The Viruá preserves ecosystems of great ecological relevance and scenic beauty. Ecotourism is practiced in the midst of the diverse wildlife of southern Roraima.

If your destination is the capital, Boa Vista, be sure to visit the Civic Center with its palaces and monuments and the Orla Taumanan, on the Rio Branco, and its beaches. By boat you can reach the other shore and Serra Grande, a nature and adventure destination close to the capital.

BR-174 also leads to the main tourist routes in Roraima for those arriving from Boa Vista. One of the destinations is Pacaraima, on the border with Santa Elena de Uairén, in Venezuela. In the Paraitepuy community, one can see Mount Roraima. It is from this Venezuelan village that the week-long expeditions leave to climb the mount to get to know the attractions between Brazil, Venezuela, and Guyana. Another option is to fly over the region by plane or helicopter. Still in Pacaraima, it is possible to visit the Bananal Indigenous Community to get to know the indigenous culture and customs. Sustainable tourism is one of the activities that help local development.

The Tepequém mountain range, or "Chapéu Grande" to the Indians, in Amajari, 240 km from Boa Vista, is one of the most visited destinations in Roraima. The former diamond mining site is now a haven for ecotourism and adventure on Route 174. The destination with its mild climate has restaurants, inns, and camping areas. Among other activities, visitors practice trekking, biking, rappelling, and bathing in waterfalls. The Mirante and the Paiva Waterfall, one of the most beautiful in the region, stand out. It is also part of the itinerary to explore caves and observe the wildlife in the immense green area, besides the stunning landscape on the border of Brazil and Venezuela.
