In celebration of the State and National Tourism Dayan inclusive tour focusing on accessibility for deaf visitors will be launched on Wednesday, May 8, at 9am, in the Woods of Scienceat the National Institute for Amazon Research (Inpa), in thein the Petrópolis neighborhood, in the south zone.
The tourist visitation for the deaf is the result of a research project of the Tourism student of the Amazonas State University (UEA), Thiago Souzaunder the guidance of Professor of Tourism at UEA, doctor Selma Batista Selma Batista. The inclusive route will have the support of cell phones based on artificial intelligence system "Giulia - Talking Handsassisted technology tool that uses the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) and was made in partnership with the development team of the startup Map Innovation and support from Samsung Ocean.
The application is already available for smartphone download, but the environment of the inclusive script will only be available as of May 8th. On this date, the deaf person will be able to download the environment of the application on the cell phone and through the withdrawal of a kit at the gate of the forest, you can access the information of the attractions in pounds, by reading QRCodes.
According to the teacher, with the access to the new application environment, the goal is to break the barriers and provide accessibility to public tourism and leisure spaces, ensuring full and effective participation of deaf people in equal conditions in the society.
About the project
The unprecedented project had a pilot carried out with deaf students from the state school Augusto Carneiro dos Santos, in the months of July and August of the year 2018, whose results led to the winning of first place in the academy category of the National Tourism Awardorganized by the Ministry of Tourism in December 2018.
Idealized by professor Manuel Cardoso, the 'Giulia Mãos que Falam' was developed through assisted technology for use by the deaf, with the participation of interpreter Camila do Nascimento Alencar, developers Paulo Sérgio da Silva Farias, Fabricio Guimarães de Oliveira, Marcel Luís Silva Cunhas. The design and all the work done was validated by the deaf Marly Fernandes.
At Inpa, the supervision of the content had the technical support of Rita Mesquita, PhD, and Alexandre Buzaglo, from the Extension Coordination of the Science Wood.
