Event will discuss the role of cycling and mobility for the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN).
The bicycle and the future of urban mobility in Brazil will be on the agenda at the 7th Bicycle Forum of Manausa free event that takes place in the city between August 15 and 17. An event organized by Movimento Pedala Manaus e Amazonas Sustainable Foundation (FAS)the action will happen always from 7pm at FAS' headquarters, Rua Álvaro Braga, 351, Parque 10 de Novembro, with limited enrollment at fas-amazonas.org.
With the theme "The Bicycle and the 17 UN's SDGs: a new agenda for sustainable urban development", the forum aims to discuss the scenario of bicycle use in Brazilian municipalities and cities. Debates, panels, project presentations, round tables, and urban interventions will be promoted, with the participation of the municipal public power, private initiative, and representatives of the third sector that work on active mobility.
Among the speakers confirmed are Geraldo Alves and Tatiana Schor, from the Federal University of Amazonas (Ufam), Zé Lobo, known for his work in the organization Transporte Ativo (Active Transport), from Rio de Janeiro, and the cyclist from São Paulo Suzana Nogueira.
"The global goals, as established in the SDGs, seek to consolidate human rights and the bicycle is already meeting these goals worldwide, evidencing once again that cities urgently need to invest in them", says the coordinator of Pedala Manaus, Nádia Aguiar.
Themes such as income generation, sustainable communities, gender equality, health and welfare will be some of the issues discussed. The dialogue with the public power and with the citizens will also happen as a tool to raise awareness of the theme.
According to the coordinator of the Sustainable Cities Agenda of the Foundation, Paula Gabriel, the forum is important because "brings a vision of how the promotion of public policies for the bicycle and the use of this mode of transport has direct and indirect impact on the SDGs, which underlie the new urban agenda of those that came into force worldwide from the Third United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development ".
The VII Manaus Bicycle Forum is supported by the Manaus City Hall, Rede Amazônica Group, Makro Produtora, Tembici, Audax Bikes, Pedal & Cia, Magistral, Accor Hotels - Ibis Budget Manaus, Valdemar Design, União de Ciclistas do Brasil (UCB), Associação Brasileira dos Fabricantes de Motocicletas, Ciclomotores, Motonetas, Bicicletas e Similares (Abraciclo), and the Rede de Soluções para o Desenvolvimento Sustentável da Amazônia (SDSN Amazônia).
"Making urban transportation and mobility more sustainable is vitally important for humanity and the planet. Moreover, active mobility is a human right at all scales, which includes the right to bicycle," says Nádia Aguiar.
