Market stalls are removed from slope in Nova Floresta

The occupation is recurrent and was already functioning as a free market, with food sales, on a stretch of hillside at risk of collapse.

Environmental inspectors of Manaus Prefecture, with support from police officers of the Military Police Environmental Battalion, made this Thursday, 14/2, the removal of 12 tents and frames built in a risk area, located on the street Topazio, New Forest neighborhood, North zone of Manaus.

The occupation is recurrent and was already functioning as a free market, with food sales, on a stretch of hillside at risk of collapse. Acting in a preventive way, the inspectors of the Municipal Secretariat of Environment and Sustainability (Semmas) returned to the site for the demolition of the structures.

There was no trespasser on site and all the tents and frames were removed. In Article 32, the Environmental Code of the Municipality of Manaus (Law 605/2001) classifies as territorially protected spaces the slopes that harbor vegetation cover that contributes to the stability of slopes subject to erosion and sliding. At the site, there was the commercialization of açaí, fish, vegetables, frozen coconut, among other products, and the generation of residues by the vendors.
