Dancing can be an exercise alternative for those who don't like to do weight training at the gym.
In the last years, ballroom dancing has become popular and attracted fans, especially among young people. More than a physical activity and socialization, ballroom dancing can bring several benefits to the health of those who practice it.
According to the teacher and choreographer of Fórmula Academia, Andrew Roggerdance can be an exercise alternative for those who don't like to do weight-training at the gym. "Because it is a dynamic activity, which involves several musical rhythms and the student needs to learn different choreographies in every class, it ends up being very attractive", he pointed out.
Ballroom dancing, he says, is composed of several rhythms, from the slowest, like bolero, to the most agitated and sensual, like salsa, tango, forró, and samba de gafieira.
The choreographer highlights that the dance promotes an improvement both in the physical and psychological aspects of those who practice it. "During the classes it is possible to notice a significant change in the students' behavior. The shy ones become more sociable. The confidence and self-esteem of those who dance increase", he emphasized.
According to Andrew, ballroom dancing helps in the improvement of physical fitness and cardiovascular development, because during the classes there is an acceleration of the heartbeats, due to the intensity of the exercise.
Another advantage of ballroom dancing is the loss of calories. In a 50-minute class it is possible to lose 300 to 500 calories, depending on the rhythm that is being practiced and the intensity. The dance also contributes to stress reduction. "During the class, the brain releases endorphin, dopamine, and serotonin, hormones responsible for pleasure and relaxation.
Another advantage for the health of those who practice ballroom dancing is the development of the muscles of the whole body and, consequently, the improvement of balance and motor coordination. "Although it doesn't directly involve muscular work, ballroom dancing works the whole body, making it more toned, but without exaggeration", he reinforced. The memory is also benefited by ballroom dancing, since the choreographies need to be memorized in order to be put into practice.
To practice ballroom dancing it is not necessary to go to class with someone. "Many students take the opportunity to go with their husbands or wives, but if there is no partner, it is possible to meet someone on the spot. The important thing is to practice a physical activity".
