Released this Monday, 12/16, the ebook "Welcome to Wonderful Streetof the Amazonian writer Gabriel Marreached the top of the list of best sellers by Amazon in Brazil in the category LGBT literature and fiction for young adults. The independent work also ranks second in the digital publishing rankings for 'Social and family issues' and 'Social and family problems'.
The 346-page novel tells the backstage story of the staging of a musical show based on the text by the protagonist Igor, an aspiring actor discovered by a renowned theater director. Written in the first person, "Welcome to Wonder Street" addresses issues such as anxiety and self-esteem while taking the reader on a journey of identity for the characters.
According to the author, the main inspiration for the book came from "Hamilton," a Broadway phenomenon musical about one of America's founding political leaders. The lyrics of the songs and the central theme of the play - Alexander Hamilton's desire to leave a relevant legacy in the world - were determining factors in the creation of "Welcome to Wonder Street".
"This idea speaks very loudly to me and I began to think, in a more Brazilian context, about the people in our daily lives who still have legacies to create and stories to tell, but who perhaps have not been heard until today," explains Gabriel Mar, who has also accumulated experience as an actor and assistant director in local theater productions.
"Welcome to Wonder Street" is the fourth work published by Gabriel Mar and marks a new phase in the writer's career and style. "With this book, I discovered a new version of my writing, lighter, more dynamic and more responsible. I really want to make it easier for young people to access the book, and more than anything, to hear what they have to tell me about their identification with the story," he says.
The book was released through Kindle Direct Publishing, Amazon's publishing service for independent authors, with global distribution. The ebook is available for Kindle devices and the Kindle app. The download is available via the link (click here).
